La Plagne Gondola To Complete New Access to Highest Terrain Next Winter

La Plagne's project to modernise and improve access to its high-altitude glacial terrain is due to be completed ahead of next winter with the opening of the new Roche de Mio gondola.

The first stage of this project was completed with the construction of the Glaciers gondola lift, connecting Roche de Mio to Live 3000 (the new name the resort has given its high altitude terrain) which went into service in December 2023).

British ski company Mountain Heaven ceases operations

[b]After 21 years of operating British ski company Mountain Heaven has taken the decision to stop operating.

The company first offered self-catered apartments in La Plagne Montalbert in 2003 and added catered chalets growing to six resorts in France and Switzerland.

Ischgl Post 2 Million Skier Days for First Time Since 2019

Austrian ski resort Ischgl has posted 2 million skier visits for the first time since pre pandemic.

To celebrate, board members of the resort's Silvrettaseilbahn lift company Markus Walser and Günther Zangerl, jointly welcomed Mrs Annemarie Dohr and her husband Harald from Lower Austria, to the couple's great surprise, providing the two millionth winter guests with gifts as they boarded a gondola.

Charity Fundraiser Completes Paris Marathon in Ski Boots

Marathon-running fundraiser Mike Humphreys of Hedon in Yorkshire has completed the Paris Marathon running in a pair of ski boots.

Mike, who is a personal trainer, took only six hours and 50 minutes to complete the race in what he described as "probably the toughest thing I've ever done".

Travelski launches new overnight snow train to French Alps

French tour operator Travelski have announced that they will be running a new overnight train service between Paris and Bourg St Maurice next winter.

The 'Travelski Night Express' will travel from Paris on Friday evenings, arriving into the Tarentaise valley in the French Alps on Saturday mornings. The return leg will come back on Saturday evening, arriving in Paris on Sunday morning. The timings mean that up to 8 days of skiing are possible.

48 Hour Snowfall Totals Up to 1.5 Metres in the Alps

Wednesday-Thursday snowfall totals of up to 3 metres were initially being reported in the Alps from the massive storm of the last few days. However the high stat for Les Arcs, which has also returned to the top of Europe's snow-depth table reporting 3.2m lying up top, was later cut down to 155cm - or around five feet, after what appeared to be an over enthusiastic keying in error.

Storm of The Season Hits The Alps

A massive storm is currently hitting the Alps, the largest of the 24-25 ski season by some way.

Snow reporters are largely hunkered down at this point rather than measuring snow depths, but those that have managed to get 24 hour totals so far have included Verbier (75cm), Grindelwald and Val Cenis (65cm), La Thuile (60cm) and Andermatt (40cm).

Verbier gets 1 metre of snow in under 24 hours

Tignes and Val d’Isère Announce 2025 Summer Ski Dates

Tignes and Val d'Isère have both announced their summer ski plans for 2025, each with a short four-week opening plan.

Val d'Isère will open from Saturday June 8th to Sunday July 7th, Tignes from 21 June to 20 July 2025, although it's all dependent on the snow and weather conditions of course.

Spanish Ski Area To Stay Open Into May

Europe's most southerly ski area, Spain's Sierra Nevada, has announced it plans to stay open into May.

The resort, located above the ancient city of Grenada and close to the Mediterranean coast, had had a rather lacklustre first two-thirds of the season with limited snowfall, but since March has had some of the biggest accumulations in Europe, leading it to ending March posting the continent's deepest snow at 3 metres (10 feet).

It’s Bacon Appreciation Day at Buttermilk

Ski areas across North America (and of course the entire northern hemisphere) are winding down their 24-25 seasons, many throwing spring fun festivities to end on a high.

Lots of these involve music, pond skimming and similar, but Buttermilk, the first of the four Aspen Snowmass ski areas in Colorado to end their seasons, today, 6 April, has always done things a little differently with their annual Bacon Appreciation Day.

Andermatt To Install Two New 6 Seat Chairlifts

Switzerland's Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis ski area has received planning approval from the Swiss Federal Office of Transport to upgrade its Val Val – Cuolm Val and Val Val – Calmut quad chairlifts to six-seaters.

The new installations will not only double transport capacity but also serve as a key element in connecting the ski areas between the Oberalp Pass and Milez/Cuolm Val.

New NZ Superpass covers 10 resorts

A new collective lift pass has launched in New Zealand.

The 'Superpass' gives skiers and snowboarders the freedom to ski Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt anytime, plus the option to seven other mountains.

Unlike many other collective passes there no blackout periods and no consecutive day requirements. Essentially, you can ski or board when you want, where you want.

Big Snowfalls on Closed (And Still Open) Austrian Slopes

Austria has seen one of its biggest snowfalls of the season over the past 48 hours, with accumulations of up to 60cm (two feet) reported.

The biggest falls were recorded on slopes at the Skiwelt, one of the country's largest areas, however it had ended its 24-25 season on Sunday.
