Iain Martin from The Ski Podcast caught up with Dave Ryding for J2Ski at the recent London Snow Show.
How do you feel your training's going at the moment?
Everything is in the right place. The body feels good, my mind's in the right place, and all in all, can't complain.
Obviously, it is an Olympic year. Do you have a kind of target for the Games?
I think the simple aspiration is to just try and better what I've done before in Olympic Games. I had the same sort of mindset for the World Champs to better my ninth place and I managed that with sixth, so I'm going to try and better my ninth place from Pyeongchang.
I recently interviewed our top female slalom racer Reece Bell. She mentioned to me that you've been helping mentor her and she found your advice really helpful.
Yes, I work Apex 2100 with three of their athletes on mentorship. It's something that I might look to do in the future but any knowledge I can pass on to Reece is something I'm trying to do.
It's something I like doing and it also stimulates me for the next chapter of my life because while I'll be racing for another four months we'll see what I do after that. Hopefully nurturing the next generation is a big part of it.
