Skier and extreme athlete Oliver Kern set two new world records at the SnowWorld Bispingen indoor ski area last week.

With an impressive 20,319m of elevation gain, he set a new record of vertical skied in a single 24-hour period in an indoor ski area. He also broke the elevation gain record of 910m for a single hour.

Kern began his record attempt at midnight on 07 October at SnowWorld Bispingen in Germany.

In the first hour, he managed to set a world record with 24 rides on the detachable six-seater chairlift from Doppelmayr, covering 910m in altitude.

By 11am, he had completed another 202 rides on the chairlift, before the centre opened to the public at which point he moved to the button lift, which he had exclusive use of.

In the next nine hours he completed 219 runs before public skiing finished at 8pm and he moved back to the chairlift. Another 79 trips later before his last run at 1145pm, Kern completed 20,319m altitude gain.

Kern used glove warmers and a hot water bottle to keep himself going through the continual period in cold temperatures.

Oliver Kern said:
"The day was incredible. The support from SnowWorld Bispingen was fantastic, and without the great infrastructure and dedicated team, this record would not have been possible.
