Two new lifts for Portes du Soleil this winter

Published : 17-Sep-2025 02:21

Two new lifts are coming to Les Portes du Soleil – the cross-border ski areas that includes the ski resorts of Abondance, Avoriaz, Champéry, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine, Morgins, Saint Jean d'Aulps, Torgon, Les Crosets and Champoussin.

La Rosta chairlift – Les Gets

In December 2025, the old four-seater chairlift at Les Gets will be replaced by a new, modern eight-seater chairlift.

This new lift will be faster, operating at a speed of 6 meters per second, with greater comfort for skiers.

It is equipped with a Direct Drive motor, which helps lower noise levels, reduces energy usage, and minimizes environmental impact.

Progress is going well and the lift is on track to open in December 2025. The next major step is the unrolling and splicing of the installation cable, which is scheduled for early October.

The Linga chairlift – Châtel

The Linga gondola in Châtel will be replaced by a new, high-speed six-seater chairlift reducing the travel time to just 5 minutes.

The chairlift will also increase capacity, transporting up to 3000 skiers and snowboarders per hour, compared to the previous 2230.

Built with fewer pylons (13 instead of 21) and featuring a quiet, hydrocarbon-free, eco-friendly motor, the new lift is also designed to minimize its environmental impact.

A new building at the top of the lift will include a picnic room with panoramic views of Châtel and the valley.
