Yeah the freezing level is where zero degrees celcius is. Anywhere above it is minus something and anywhere below it is plus something. The lower the freezing level, the better!

180s are pretty easy, ive landed some 3s but very irregularly. Best looking grab is a mute, pretty easy to do as well.

Passing my CSIA level 2 exam on Monday! Before that it would have been passing level 1.

banff shades or gogles?

Personally i only ever wear goggles, because they prevent your eyes from watering at speed. But thats just down to personal preference.

Tony H hit it spot on, take both with you and wear whichever you feel like wearing. Obviously if its snowy goggles are advisable!!

Havent skied Banff, yet, but from what everyone else says, head to Sunshine. gets the most snow, its the main area and got the best terrain.
Where to go?

I can recommend Big White, i'm in Big White right now and have been since 10th Dec. Awesome resort, brilliant snow, unfortunately no challenging skiing really with the Cliff being still closed, but on a normal year it would be open. Plenty of good snow, 38cm powder day last week, 22cm last night made for a great day today as well, and obviously its really light dry powder! Silver Star is nearby though, its where i get my steep skiing fix! probably gonna go back next week and ski the backside where all the double blacks are!! Gowabunga is the steepest run i have ever skied!

kicking horse is supposed to be awesome as well, but i've never skied it although im desperate to!
Pole position (excuse the pun)

Trencher i'm just quoting what some of Canada's top skiers and the CSIA say. if there was no need for poles, why would they even have been put into skiing?

Poles are for stability, a strong pole plant in short radius turns helps you recentre yourself for the next turn.

As for pole position, the main movement of the pole plant come from the wrist, the arms should only move to bring the pole forward, the plant itself is totally wrist movement (or at least should be!) Keep your arms and poles forward all the time, keeps you in balance.
