I've skied in Filzmoos 3 times!! Cool little village but very limited skiing, but whats there is good.
Can't comment for the rest of the Ski Amade cos i havent skied it, but Filzmoos is a nice little area! |
Yeah i visualize skiing all the time, sometimes for fun and others to try and mentally perfect a technique then later perfect it on snow. It does work for me definately, and most as well!
Theres nothing better than a dream making perfect turns down steep untouched powder on a bluebird day :D |
Most prices are much more reasonable, than the UK anyway. I've never been to the US properly so cant compare against those though. An expensive meal in Big White would cost about $50 CAD. Beer is cheaper as well, a crate of beer like Budweiser (12 pack) cost about $12-$14 which is pretty good!! In Big White groceries were more expensive because of the demand, but down in Kelowna they were cheaper so we often went down there to get the stuff we needed.
Skis/snowboards on the other hand are pretty much the same price as they are back in the UK. Whether in resort or city (Kelowna) they are the same. When i went out i thought i'd have a significant saving, but to be honest i haven't. Now, I'd recommend people to get equipment in the UK as it doesnt make any difference, and theres often more of a choice. |
I havent done a season in Europe before but have just spent the majority of this season in Canada. Skied Europe many times before though.
The snow is generally a lot better in Canada and more reliable at all levels. They also get a lot more of it. Lift lines (if ever you come across one in Canada) are a lot more relaxed. In Europe theres people all over the tips/tails of your skis fighting for space. Canadians queue Very boarder friendly everywhere in Canada, as chaletskovakia said they have lots of benches at the top for boarders to strap in. The whole skiing/boarding attitude is a lot more relaxed and i love that!! Next season ill be out in Big White again working, so will ski the opening day to the closing day. Kicking Horse and Red Mountain are also at the top of my "to ski next year" list :D . Revelstoke and Whistler are the other 2. Once you have been out there you wont want to come back, trust me  |

Dont bank on it being a lot cheaper in Canada. When i went out to Big White in early Dec, i had to buy a pair of skis there and the prices are pretty much the same as they are in the UK. You never know though you might find some better places!

Minesa reflection of me in my mates goggles, took it in Big White in January some time. I think its a really cool pic!

yeah depends on what im skiing. My 4frnts have a 25m radius but are as much fun in their correct usage as my Nordica's with a 14m radius.
Skis that are narrow underfoot and wide at tip and tail generally have a tight turning radius. Skis that are fatter underfoot and not comparatively wider at tip and tail have a long turning radius. For totally different usage but both are extremely fun! |
Sorry to bring up old topic, but found it on a google search!?
Just got a pair of Dobermann Spitfires. Skied some in Big White earlier in the year and i love them!!! Cant wait to ski my own ones, unfortunately gotta wait till November till i get back to Big White. |
