I have just bought my first new pair of ski boots today :D
Atomic M100s. I got them from Snow and Rock in Chertsey. They have a very good selection and the fitting process is excellent. As for the boots they were recommended by many people in the shop. Next year i will be getting skis as i am doing a 11 week instructors course in Canada. The skis i have my eye on already are the K2 Apache Crossfires which are a great all mountain ski. |
Yeah good tips. Most of them i have got past but there are still a few that i do!!! mainly going to the top of the resort with my eagerness to ski long and fast at the beginning of a holiday!!
Cheers for the advice :D |
Yeah Sunday for me as well!!
Looks good |
In Nov/Dec, somewhere more north would be better like Lapland. Only problem with that, is that a flight is required really. It is a hell of a long drive!!! Lapland would have good snow, even in Nov/Dec, something the Alps may not have. The problem with the alps for the non skier is that there isnt much else to do, and the resorts that do have more non skiing to do are lower and therefore dont have as much snow about (if any at that time of the year). Lapland would be very cold and snow would be fine, it has cross country everywhere and sleigh/husky rides are common to. Also, as everyone knows, Lapland is the home of Father Christmas. Lapland in christmas would be perfect for the kids.
Its a bit of a dilemma you are in really, choosing to drive at a time where there may not be a huge amount of snow in the nearby resorts where skiing isnt the only thing to do. I would say if you are prepared to fly up to Lapland or the like, it would be best. Lots of snow and non skier activities. Accomodation varies from self catering chalets to decent hotels to. Hope that helps :-) Ben |
DDUK try www.skiclub.co.uk
The historical snow feature they have is good, but you have to register with them to get it, which is free (not the membership). ![]() The above is the snow for Westendorf throughout the whole season. Hope that helps :D |
Val Thorens would come top, in my opinion. The Arcs 1800 the Risoul, but the thing that of course dictates it in the end is the money...
Ive been to Thorens once ages ago and it was really good, thing i remember most was the snow (it was good even in early Dec!). Ive never been to the other 2 |

I dont really know much about the Geneva area but i am more familiar with the Salzburg area. The higher resort thats near Salzburg is Obertauern which should have good snow there. The resort is at 1700m and skiing is up to 2400m.
Thats all i can think of off the top of my head... |
Well... Last year, the last week of November saw Geilo have 3 cm of snow on lower and upper slopes and first week of December it rose to 15cm. Thats not brilliant, but as with anywhere early season, there can be large dumps of snow (especially Norway cos of its geographical position).
You could go there and have 50cm+ of snow if you were lucky, but then again you could get there and see just green slopes. I am not sure what the snow-making facilities are like in Geilo, but if it is cold enough the snow making will be working on full. But last season might have had a poor start?? Hope that helps... ben |
