St Anton.
Mecca for all advanced skiers, and is famous for its long hard runs. |
Seefeld has a lot of extra stuff as well as the skiing/snowboarding.

Hi Phil
The resort i have been to for the past 3 years is called Filzmoos which is about an hour from Salzburg. I am returning there this february for a week, which shows how much i love the place!!! Skiing is good but the immediate area around it isnt that big. But it certainly is easy family skiing and the snow is good to. All acommodation is within easy reach of the slopes (there are 2 main lifts that go up either side of the valley. Its not busy in Feb half term so in January it will be empty!!! I highly reccomend Filzmoos. I have tonnes of pictures of it etc and know many good places to stay, so if any further information is required just ask!! Hope that helps Ben |

Unfortunately the traditional Bavarian style villages tend to be quite low, which of course affects the amount of snow they have and also the quality of it, especially in December. Garmisch probably wouldnt have much although it does have lifts that go higher. Worth a try though, and the village does look quite nice. It should have many facilities to having once hosted the Winter Olympics, be it a while back!!
Then after the problem of snow at the nice traditional villages, is that the higher resorts dont tend to look as nice. Having said that the Austrian high resorts are quite nice, Obertauern and Obergurgl being the 2 main ones. Obertauern would be the best if you want the most snow in mid Dec. It ranges from about 1700m to 2400m or so, so there is enough variation in height if the snow there is even bad!! Other high resorts in the Alps include Tignes which looks hideous. Great skiing but as far as pleasantness of the resort it scores very lowly. Austria is definately the place to stick to to get the height and still retain the typical Austrian charm. |
All the American resorts wil be open with decent snow then (most have some parts open now!) But thats if you are prepared to go to the US for only 1 week!!
Otherwise Tignes SHOULD be good in mid December although it has no snow at the moment which is kinda unusual. But there is always the glacier to rely on if the snow there is poor. Any high place in the Alps would be fairly good, and then theres somewhere like Levi or Yllas in Finland which are good already, cold and decent snow. Choice is yours!!!! |
haha.
Yeah i'd say aaah-ray as well. not 100% sure but that would be my best guess!! |
Yeah i have been looking at the webcams today and its good to see Austria has received its first decent snow. Hopefully it stays cold and snowy!!!

WHISTLER!!!!
Whisther is AMAZING!! Definately the best resort in the world. I went there 2003/4 and was amazing. North Tahoe is supposed to be good to but i think Whistler is better judging by some of the thoughts of people i know that have been to both many times... |
