You might add to that our synergy with our skis. For example, right now I have Volkl Supersport S4's. I feel that they are a very good match for my current ability. They "push" me a little bit, I have to improve to really make them work. Whereas, if I had the Mutix's being discussed, they would be way beyond my current ability. I would end up doing circles on the way down! :D Admittedly, I would something a little quicker every now and then, but the first time I used my Volkl's I had some painful lessons about getting too far back. :)
And Ellistine, you better not be giving up!! Haha.

For you well "educated" skiers these numbers are nominal, some interval and one is the product of the Gaussian distribution! Hope I have wet your intellectual appetit!
It is these numbers that give skiers peace of mind! Once you will find out these numbers you wiil understand.
peace of mind? it certainly has to do with buying or having the right ski for yourself.
product of the gaussian distribution? a probability then.
november? many buy skis new season skis in november in the north hemisphere right?
i would say it is the probability skier adjusting to the new ski. therefore, the index would be a list of skis in columns and a list of ski level in rows. when using it, you should find your ski level and ski your planning to buy in the table and see the odds of that ski fitting you. for example, a level 1 skier would find a forgiveful ski pavel index number close to 100% and a race ski pavel index number close to 0%.
certainly you've made a very hard quizz here pavel! it's difficulty its only exceeded by the intrigue and interest it generates. congratulations!
cya and good luck.

P.D: i live in south america (almost ski season here) and therefore with migratory tendencies i think he meant i was close.

As I menmtioned earlier Pavel is a thinker and from that he is a planner. He says "think like me..." The clues offered of how I use the index, Ellistine is sure to have used the index, Agusl would loved to have had the index and Dshenberger will use it in November. Heck ... he will use it a lot sooner than November. With my present offering, "November" is a Red Herring ... a clue to throw us off the scent...
Don't you love my long winded replies :?: :D
OK, Pavel plans for future needs and part of this is going on his yearly "hunts" for overstocked ski related items at the end of a ski season. He is planning for his furure needs. When I bought the car I was planning for the ski transporting need. I don't care for the roof rack system. When we buy a house we assess and plan for the future costs and maintenance needs....
Stick with me ... I'm almost there...
So, as in past Pavel Quizzes, just as in this one.... I have wandered all over the place. Checking any remote thought I have with our friend Mr. Google & company; I have lost sleep and work hours, my wife has been driven to submit answers - just to maintain a level of sanity (but we did very much enjoy your visit Pavel!)., and provided overly wordy answers.
So now, if you were a planning type of person - which we all are to some extent - wouldn't you like to see the people to whom you were selling a lift ticket, to have a plan --- even if that plan was to enjoy a day's skiing?
I submit with this reply that the index is the FNI (Future Needs Index) in skiing terms this WILL be called the Pavel Index. It is a means of predicting future needs based on stastical studies of skiers' learning curves and their progression - a Gaussian curve (plotted data of the typical skier).
95% of the skiers use this (without even knowing it (?)). This tells us that 95% of the skiers are typical and will have future needs. If we didn't realize this, then we are not the planners of which Pavel would be proud.
WE have future needs ... paint the house every so often, get a new car WHICH WILL HOLD THE SKIS meeting future needs.
If we use the FNI or as it is now known, the PI we know we must plan for our future needs now (or in November). If Agusl had applied this value he would be glad he had. :(
If we think we are normal typical skiers then we are amoung the 95% = FNI and would hasten to save money by planning NOW as we learn along the path of life!! One aspect of this index I'm saving until the next chapter is how the Pavel Index uses the stastical analysis of how we learn and thereby our future needs can change from year to year. The learning curve makes the PI (or Planning Index) a little trickier to explain clearly.
And you thought my past answers have been a stretch..... but this answer too is subject to modification :!:
Skiing is all for the fun and so is the Great Pavel Quizz!!!

Do you know what? I've been to the pub tonight on the harbour side, patio heaters on for a bit of warmth and a full moon. Life is good and I never thought about the elusive fifth number once!Dshenberger wrote:And Ellistine, you better not be giving up!! Haha.
Pavel you are a star though because without this thread, as big as the internet is, I don't think I would have found anything else as intriguing to read.
P.S. It's 1am and I've just been up in the shed sraping the wax from my skis ready for a blast at the dry slope tomorrow. That's Pavels fault too!

I noticed your post and noticed the time saying to my self (a sign of the Pavel Quiozz ie. talking to yourself!) There's a post from Ellistine and it is 1:15 in England! Guess he's keen after all!
It would be nice to go skiing tomorrow even if not on snow ... it would be different ... but nice. Have a good time!!

You must be reading my mind!
The quiz is fun AND once you get the Pavel index I promise you all that you will use it on your next pair of skis! ( and thus sleep well at night, knowing you used the index correctly)
As far as Mike is concerned, as always a "few pellets" hitting the mark in your shotgun technique. The problem which pellet?
This is serious stuff here Mike! I would not want the site administrator Dave to charge me with "corrupting" his guests! I promise no red herrings here! All clues will reveal that I tried ( with great difficulty) to lead you all to free Mutix skis!
I had my wife check all 'hints" before they were submitted and she accepted each one! Mind you she knows how I think!
We now have a wall board with your names on it and we have bets who will get the skis!
Ellistine was the great favorite and my son was sure he would win! According to him Ellistine has the energy of a new skier! The stamina of a camel and the focus of an eagle on the hunt!
PS Ellistine my son is really really sad you are watching only. He told me that if he had your telephone number he would call you to give you more hints!!!!
The dark horse Dshenberger seem to get his second wind,,,,then silence! We suspect he is lurking, waiting till the last hour, like on EBAY then make his move! Smart man!
Mike you have "hit" the target so many times I have myself sleepless nights! The hits often are secondary hits bouncing off a remark! Or is it a word?
5 values. All related to skis. All essential to the modern skier.
Many of those values , if not all, will make a contented skier, a wise skier, a smart skier.
Knowing these 5 values will attract other skiers to come to you for advice!
