Just a qiuck shot from my single shot BB gun!!

We have been searching for the Pavel Index. We have discussed how Pavel thinks, how to think is to reason, how reasoning is how we learn and all of this brings knowledge. If we have knowledge (in this case as related to skis) we will be contented skiers, being wise and smart skiers indicates we must have knowledge. So....

The Pavel Index is a rating of a skiers "level of ski knowledge".

I proudly have a certificate displayed in my office which Pavel had sent me after the very first ski quizz I had entered. This certificate states I had attained LEVEL 2 in Ski Knowledge. The first quizz delt with older bindings.

So we apply our ski knowledge level when we look for skis.

The Pavel Index gives us this magic number based on our learning that experience brings. It is a statistical distribution but when we find our own level it will save us lots of money.

And who but the knowledgable do we seek when in need of advice :?:

" Mike you have "hit" the target so many times I have myself sleepless nights! The hits often are secondary hits bouncing off a remark! Or is it a word?"

Okay ....

It is becoming a quizz of semantics !!!

To experience anything is to learn and to learn is to gain knowledge and if we have knowledge then we are CONFIDENT !

Could the Pavel Index be an index where a skier's confidence level has a number.

Level #1 = beginner learning but not confident.

Level #2 = still learning and becoming knowledgable with some confidence creeping in.

Level # 3 = a bit more knwoledge and a bit more confident to share knowledge of techniques and gear - the skis

Level #4 = Advanced knowledge and gaining confidence rapidly - just like a Level IV ski instructor !!

Level #5 = inner santum skier with great knowledge and Confidence.

PI = Confidence Level Index. We use this confidence to ski, to share knowledge, to buy wisely - since we are smart skiers

I have a proposition to you all!

I have just discovered that I am going on holiday on the week of June 10th. With your approval (from the members that have actively participated in this "activity" I would like to present answers this Friday!

If you all accept, then each member can present his final 5 numbers with comments on each on Thursday night. If a member gets all five, I will send the Mutix skis to him. That is my reward for the "interesting" exchange we have had!

On Friday I will post answers with comments with all your approval!

Would you all please respond to this request.

My wife would appreciate going to the coast with her!

I guess I will have to think a bit harder then !!! The 2007 Pavel Springtime Quizz will be concluding a few hours early .... but as sad as it will be for this exchange to conclude it will be really nice to get a good sleep.

Pavel, have you noticed the number of views this quizz has generated? Last count was about 1274 ! Now, that's the magic your quizz has brought about !!!

Have a great trip, :P

Sunday morning has arrived in North America and it is another day to accept the challenge of the Pavel Quizz ... still a fun thing!

I have had yet another sleepless night but it has produced another "game plan".

I will be offering shorter answers at frequent intervals over the day.

Yes, the lawn needs cutting, the car should be washed, I had planned to repair a shed roof today, and there are other things that WERE planned for today ... but... the QUIZZ is still on! We are running out of time....

In the past 8 hours or so there have been an additional 43 views of this thread!! (I was spending another sleepless night so those 43 views didn't come from me.) I'm sure there are many out there lurking with the answer at the ready. Like Pavel suggested - "the eBay" strategy ! I'm quite new to the j2ski site but for a thread to cover 8 pages with better than 100 replies and over 1300 views in a matter 14 days is something which I think is remarkable. It must be in fact that we enjoy THINKING and LEARNING and in turn becoming CONFIDENT through the KNOWLEDGE we have gained by this lively exchange of ideas.

For my next venture into the "deep" tune in a bit later.

Mike,

Fine you are on list as "accepting" Thursaday's deadline and presentation of all five numbers to all "active" members of this discussions.

Notice "active" members site membership. This is to reward all those who "suffered" the stress of thinking during meetings, sleepless nights, broken dates, long searches in the back of the mind.

The active members will get 4 of numbers on general chat site and the final "mind breaking" figure will be given on PM due to its "power" to the holder of this knowledge. Such knowledge is not passed on to all! You will understand once you get this "number" and instructions how to use it!

Now I have really wet your appetites!

The waiting will be worth it!

Have you seen "Star Wars"? Well, the power is within you, but you must learn to channel it in the skiing context. That is what this number will do!

Thursday June 7 2007 Deadline.

One very quick shot at one of the numbers!!

That number being : " 1 ". The significance behind this nuumber and why it is a magic number. -- a number is considered magic when it is connected to something magical. the skis are magical if we maintain them through waxing and tuning each day we ski on them. That is to say 1 is the number of days we can use the skis (feeling magical results) between waxing & tunings.

Don't forget this is a Pavel Quizz and he tunes his skis everyday he uses them! Therefore 1 is a magic number.

More to come...

Another very quick shot at one of the numbers!!

It may be all about the skis but it may be all about statistical sampling too. The skis being the sample. Like Agusl, I think, was suggesting, I'm thinking we are talking about ski selection based on the Confidence Interval of 90%. When we know how to use the "Z" tables related to large samples (when the standard deviation is not known and must be approximated) we will be able to sleep at night knowing we have selected a good ski based on soild mathematical calculations. The trick is learning to use the associated mathematics. And what is more magical than mathematics - other than skiing, of course.

Now being a confident skier I try to share what I may know (or may not know) and that's why this is offered. Just to complicate the quizz a bit more and draw out even more fun!!!

More to come... but since I'm here now, let's say for a 90% Confidence Interval we use a Z value of 1.645 (from a Z value table) and this is used to study the sample when considering a 90% CI.

And if this isn't stuff from Star Wars ... what is??
