Have you ever played the "HOT COLD " game with your children?

You hide a candy or toy somewhere in house and child has to locate it via your "hot or cold" feedbacks!

HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT

Dam another hint!

On June 11 when all is done and you read your messages, you will ALL;

slap your foreheads and.........

Say, " Yes it is so evident, Of course it is....."

Danger has many forms! Physical, emotional, economical!
Which one am I referring to Mike!

November? November?

What happens in November?

In English "it is the accept/reject" hypothesis decision using Gausian distribution! You are at the .01 level!!!! Very close!!!

Seems skis are going to South America! ( and it is Winter there) Seems they have migratory tendencies!

Think what else did you say to show me how you think Mike? HOT!
Just maybe the skis are going to Nova Scotia!

You fellows are smart!

To help you "see" I propose an internet demonstration.

Take anyone and sit them on chair aqnd look ahead.
Ask them to close eyes and NOT move head at all times during session.

Take any instrument that makes clicking sound or just use finger and thumb to make clicking sound.

Now ask person sitting to locate sound with right index finger. Remember they must have eyes closed at all times!

Click once near right ear! ( They will locate sound very well)

Now click at mid-line axis of the head. That is the exact distance between right and left ear ! This axis begins at nose and goes between eyes over head to neck!

Notice response!

To check person's hearing once in a while click to left or right of mid line axis!

Try clicking 10 mm from nose at mid-line head axis! See what happens when stimulus is RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!

What is happening?

All of you are very smart and effective problem solvers, but something is "keeping" you in the box!

This demonstration should help you!

Enjoy!

This goes from bad to worse!! Migratory tendencies? Haha.

"What happens in November?" Well, this year I will be counting down the days until it gets cold enough to make snow! Of course, here in America we will have Thanksgiving. ;)

I see much greater minds than mine at work here. :)

There's a pattern emerging here;
Mind you I wish Ellistine wins so that he can "tell" other skiers what it feels like to ski on a "hot" ski!
HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT
Dam another hint!
Think what else did you say to show me how you think Mike? HOT!
However, as per usual, the more Hints he gives us the more frustrated I get.

Wow - Page 7!

I can't wait for all this to be over and then we can start talking about carving and steeps and all those interesting things that I CAN get my head around :P

This is my last input. From now on I'm a spectator on this thread (probably) - for my own sanity! Yesterday in Cornwall I think the rest of the party thought I was sulking. Infact I was just deep in thought about this darned number after looking up the latest hints on my mobile phone.

So...

The number is 0.

My reasoning; You select a series of criteria. In the case of skis this could include length, performance, graphics, price etc etc. You then decide what your ideal ski would consist of. As your ideal ski never exists you have to choose from a selection of ski models/brands etc. You rate each ski in each criteria giving it a value either side of 0 ie -1 or +1. If the ski is more than you would like to pay you give it a -0 if it's less you give it a +0. Once you have completed your analyse of each ski you add together all the -1 and +1 to come up with a score. The highest score wins!

Speak to you all on June the 11th (probably - I can't imagin I'd really be able to keep quiet until then)

Ellistine,

What can I say to "motivate" you to continue! So close yet .....

One way or another I want to reward your effort, your sleepless nights and your "patient" wife that has endured your "troubled mind""

I promise if ever you come to Canada to ski, I will lend you these skis ( if you do not win them) for the duration of the holiday!

O is an index?

I do not know what you do as living but I am sure you have across indices in all sorts of situations. Typically they represent in a short easy manner some "complex" activity, some complex relationship, some "snapshot" of market activity, some research finding.

Is not statistics means to make "understanding" decisions from complex numerous data?

This is where you should all ask cpavel ( that Ph.d student also skier) to give you input on the mind of the culprit!

Learning is so wonderful.

Do the experiment. It might give you insight!

This is becoming more difficult for me since I see the answer everywhere!!!!!!

Sometimes it helps to read our own posts.

I just did that and it want to offer this.

The Pavel Index is in reality an index which describes how we know our own ability!

If we don't know how "good" or how "not so good" we really are when it comes to handling the skis it could indeed become a dangerous sport. If we try to make ourselves out to be better than we are then it could cost us a lot of money in may ways We might buy the skis which we can't handle, we could become injured and injuries are expensive. Pavel wouldn't let us on the hill if we didn't know if we could handle it or not. If we aren't used to a highly powered sports car nor a high performance ski we could be in trouble
If we don't know how to fly a fighter jet, then we shouldn't get behind the controls; if we can't swim, we should keep out of the deep water. We must be true to ourselves and then we can enjoy the learning (which is another hint!) and move up the Pavel Index from 1 = beginner to 4= expert. It is all about the skis if we know which ski to "drive"

Mike  :!:

I have just realized that I have infact deleted a really good answer to which I refered above as "reading our own posts....... It really was a good answer too!!! I must try to re-build it later....

Looking back at some of today's hints.

The person pointing to where the sound came from is LEARNING

We cannot get out side of the box because we are not LEARNING from our past posts

And the other aspect to which Pavel refers to something I told him was of how I had felt I had LEARNED more this year and also how I felt I had so much to learn... I recognized my ability had a lot to grow.

So despite I feel many of all of our answers had in many ways answered the original clues, perhaps the Pavel Index has as much to do with our learning curve (bell curve - gaussian distribution) as much as our own knowledge of how we would rate as beginner to advanced skier.

As we learn we can save money by not making the same mistakes twice, our skiing will improve as we learn how to use our learning index to the fullest. If our learning is mindful and we do in fact truly learn from our mistakes then the Pavel Index may be a natural log function where the final level attained is infinite as we learn exponentially if the reward is perceived as worth the effort. Learning produces knowledge! And if we have learned anything from the Pavel quizz it is that we need deep thinking ability to gain the knowledge to reach the pinicales we wish to attain.

Maybe a more pondering sleepless night tonight. Possibly I will dream of Pavel at his computer typing out the answer in preparation for June 11. I'm sure he is dreaming of all of us trying. He probably has to explain to his wife in the morning why he has such a solid grin on the awakening face!.
