Oddly enough my most expensive ones are the least warm! The north face ones-which were 45quid in the sales (from 175) are just a shell and really breathable

My dad has had his dare2be coat for over 10 years

Dare2be is a great way of spotting brits on the slopes

I had some Marmot sallos that were three years old, but had only been used about twenty times. The goretex totally delaminated from the butt area. Could have been sliding on my butt after falls on hard snow that caused it, but you would think that's usual wear and tear.
because I'm so inclined .....

You lot must be really harsh on your clothes! I have a Dare2be ski jacket that I love, bought 5 years ago in Austria on our first trip. It's got just as many features as the more expensive brands, and I love it. Still looks good, despite being worn throughout the winter in the UK and one ski trip per year for the last 5 years. Me and Mr Allie bought salopettes in a sale in Mountain Warehouse - think they're both Trespass brand, didn't cost more than 50 quid and are still going strong, also after 5 years.

I got some North Face sallos online for £75 (half price) and they are the perfect fit and very hard wearing. Not massively insulated but I wear thermals under them if need be.

I got some Colombia ones in TK Maxx a few years ago for £30 and they were excellent but TK dont stock Colombia any more, just Trespass and D2B mainly, neither of which I rate particularly.

The major retailers like EB and SnR are probably the best bet for better choice.

Surfanic often have discounts online, Mountain warehouse were good too. If not try hiring if it is first time and see how you get on.
