Excellent. Well done Ian :D
I think charity shops do a great job of recycling, plus the profit goes to some worthy cause or other. The £8 I paid for my Helly Hanson ski jacket went to a local hospice in Golders Green.
Billip1 - I reckon your friend was incredibly lucky to get ski boots that fitted in a charity shop! But over the years I have bought (and given) loads of stuff from/to charity shops :D

No bad experience, indeed I have a perfectly functional North Face shell jacket, which I sometimes ski in on warmer days.
I just meant, that like Rodeo and Nevica, NF was so common nowadays! :)
Maybe on the streets around the City of London it is.
I have to say that wherever I've been skiing, you see a bit of it about, obviously because its good gear. But if you want cheap nasty common stuff (especially in France) you can't beat a bit of Quecha or Wed'Ze
I noticed a lot more people this year wearing Arc'Teryx, Norronja, Rab, Haglofs and other more technical outer wear. I have to say I think it looks really smart and works for me as I really don't like wearing a padded jacket.
Funny, I always disliked Spyder gear because it thought THAT looked like the DDR tracksuit....
Both brands I have to say are stupidly priced. As much as I like TNF and some other brands, I never ever pay full price for them. Its all about finding the bargains, innit
Mine get trashed by my edges, i have had them stitched several times, fortunately they are mad of a 'rip stop' type of fabric.
My next pair will have extra reinforcement around the ankle area as it really p***ses me off when you find cuts in them.

After recently spending well into three figures on my first pair of owned ski boots (complete with liners, orthotics etc) I was contacted by a friend who told me she had just found a pair of perfect ski boots, worn once, in a charity shop for £45 ! Resemblances between myself and an unwell colourful ornithological specimen were noticed.

I'm sure you're right Ally; I guess she must have some fairly standard shaped feet ... unlike me !

Does anyone else think North Face has become the modern equivalent of Rodeo and Nevica?!!!!
I don't know much about Nevica apart from the fact that that blue/green combo he has been wearing is going cheap in sportsdirec shops, which isn't usually a good sign.
Rodeo was C&A's own brand, and IMO complete garbage, but served a purpose back in the day.
So I'm not quite sure what you mean about North Face stuff. I've had quite a bit of it over the years now, and currently ski in a North Face outer shell, or a different softshell, and have a pair of North Face sallos as well. I think its well made, good quality, long lasting and fashion conscious. They do, of course, also do a lot of mid range stuff which you see people using as all weather jackets back here in the UK - lots of black waterproofs etc, but again decent quality.
Its also not cheap to buy, whereas the 2 other brands you mentioned are.
Personally, I think North Face in the main is a good buy. Not the cheapest, but look at stuff like Dare2B, Trespass or 5 Seasons if you want cheap and not so good quality. I'd buy North Face gear again and again personally.
Have you had particular bad experience with some of their stuff?

Salopettes take more of a bashing than a jacket - get nicked by your edges, the boot zips get bashed and take a bit of a pounding when you wipe out at speed. Wouldn't advocate paying big bucks for them for this reason.
Jackets take less trauma so by all means buy one you like assuming it's breathable, waterproof and warm enough.
look a the stuff is it made from goretex or other heavy duty waterpfoof beathable material. Are the seams taped. If it says snow proof - interpret that as meaning it won't let frozen water through but when it melts you're going to get wet! Are the zips robust?
Beyond a certain price you are paying for a brand label rather than better function. I know some of you will have convinced yourselves that your overpriced Spider gear has to be better (presumably because it has a thousand and one seams to let the rain in) because it cost more or that your hyperpriced Kjuss gear is wonderful because it looks like a 1970's East German track suite.
Incidentally I heard that the relaunched Nevica brand is owned by the same manufacuter as Keilly.
