Both my ski trips to Switzerland have been great, but like you say a lot depends on the exchange rate at the time. However, everything I have found to be very efficient, polite and 'does what it says on the tin'. However, if you choose to stay in a resort which is known for its glitz and glamour and the sort of people who frequent it, then you will pay more, but if you go for a lesser known place, then you will pay less and ski with the locals and people who are not bothered by name dropping but just out for a lovely day on the slopes, and maybe a hot chocolate and big cake at the end! Certainly Adelboden where I have stayed has been fine, compared to other European countries I have skied - I have not noticed much difference in cost. Like someone else says, you can make your own lunch to eat in the little basic huts, and just buy a drink from a bar. In Austria for example, prices are higher in Kitzbuhel for both accommodation and eating/drinking owing to the name and the cosmopolitan crowd who go there - at the end of the day the bar owners and hoteliers are not stupid!
It is like comparing living costs in the Midlands to living in London! |
Swiss trains are very efficient, run on time and clean - used them many times - a great way to get around.

Just got my last minute deal booked Alpbach! and those of you also looking for late deals should compare prices with Ski Set, an online booking service for a lot of resorts. We have found an even cheaper deal through a shop in the village (also online) but worth comparing prices as equipment did work out a lot cheaper (which makes for a few more beers and Almdudlers!) :D

After much debating, searching and calculating, Alpbach it is - and skis hired via a shop in the village! Get in!! :D :D :D

Hear hear, for this reason I avoid resorts where there is likely to be any kind of stag do's, lads on tour, etc. A big no thank you!!
If you are out on the lash all night, you are missing the best part of what skiing is all about - appreciating the beauty of the alpine environment and enjoying the fresh air and wonderful feeling of skiing (or boarding)and being out in the day. Having seen this on quite a few occasions, I do wonder why people waste their money on the expense of a ski holiday - and also the problems caused by being on the slopes with a hangover - traveliing anywhere this way is a recipe for disaster! Would you get in a car to drive drunk, so what makes you any better on a pair of skis? Sorry I will now get off my podium! Enjoy Bansko! |
Drug pushing, or buying from, is considered a big no-no in most parts of the world, esp. Europe - and the penalties are big! I would go for the painkillers, easy to buy from a Pharmacy and won't get you or anyone else in trouble!
The world is a different place once you step outside your own countries! |
I am with Old (and wise) Andy on this! Best to check BEFORE, you want to stay in a ski resort not a Police cell!
