Diary of a knee injury
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 117 Replies
I too had knee surgery in December - consultant told me I would be on the easy stuff in March, I am not so sure so have resigned myself to a week of enjoying being in Austria, sitting on the slopes in a deckchair, going around on the local buses, walks and cake shops. Medical and Physio Team think I might be OK to try two days equipment hire and ski pass (also so that I don't waste a shed load of money) so I can ski the easy nursery slopes below the main gondola! Been very painful having it all cleaned out, and knee cap realigned, but light at the end of the tunnel now!!

A good website we have found this year is Bergfex - type in your resort and it will show the snow levels and various webcams.
A spring week in the Alpbachtal

OK you are obviously entitled to your opinions just as much as the rest of us are. There is always more to a ski resort than just skiing - this is a lovely area, plenty to do off the slopes, or if you had a bad day, nice places to eat, easy access to other transport, and more of a holiday than just skiing, if that is what people want. Quite often there is someone in a group who does not ski, so this area ticks a lot of boxes for many reasons - AND - when the conditions are good - which we found - it is lovely. A friend is currently in a high altitude resort in France and has had to miss a day's skiing because of the bad weather,so altitude does have disadvantages too.
There is a bus from Salzburg Airport that goes via Lofer (cos we saw it) on to Zell Am Zee. Think it is 216 or 206, but it is yellow and stops outside. Think the fare is 8 euros. You can download the timetable to see how it fits in with your arrival times, but they are not all that frequent - hope this helps a bit. Very nice journey too!

I have to disagree, altitude is not everything, I was there in 2012 and the snow conditions were superb the first week of March, good pistes and powder most days. It is nature, you can't force it. A very lovely area and I for one would be happy to go back!

Lofer is a great family resort - the kids will love it, a litle train takes them to and from lessons and everything is great fun!!
