Bandit,
Called the Atomic Service Manager and asked about your warrenty issue! If done by a "qualified" certified ski shop technician that warrenty wil be respected (after inspection of the skis)! I also called Fischer Ski Company about issue and they also told me that they would honor warrenty (first year) even if another binding was installed. |
brad1138 et al,,,,
All new skis must be waxed. Here is the reasons; 1.Your skis were made many many months before you bought them. The base does "dry out" in the storage and shipping process! 2. All skis have a global (wide range) wax applied. 3. The factory application is a "protection" layer which means that the ski was not "heated" for deep core wax penetration! The wax was sprayed on! One run and you have nothing left! The question that should have been asked was, "should I individualize my new skis" Rare is the serious skier who takes ski off rack and goes off skiing! You should; 1. de-tune ski edges to your needs 2. structure ski bases for your needs and area 3. wax skis for your area and needs Now you are ready to ski! Pavel |
Bandit,
This was done specifically on the request of the owner, who was aware of the actions taken. The skis were two years old and there was no warranty on the skis. Atomic Ski Company has a plastic top on which the drill holes for Neox bindings are stamped on! In essence "forcing" skiers to buy their bindings. If you have better or lighter bindings you can install them! To answer your specific question,,yes if your skis are broken, cracked,,Atomic can use this as a reason not to respect warrenty! After 2 years very few ski companies will respect warrenty on any ski! Hope this helps you! |
Bandit,
These were new skis that I got from Atomic ski company last year. Loved them but hated weight. They are the B5 Metrons and B5 SX models. However all Atomic Metrons have this configurations. I did not modify them in any way,,except took off heavy heavy demo binding off after I bought them. I have several spare bindings so I verified which model would best fit on Atomic platform. I installed my Rossi racing models on platform! Perfect fit! Hope this clarifies issue. |
Ever pick up an Atomic Metron ski?
90% of skiers mention right away how "heavy all Metrons are". The cause of this weight is the binding which is "forced" on the skiers since only Neox or Atomic bindings must be installed according to Atomic! They are very heavy! Here is a solution for the "weighty" problem. On all Metrons there is a plate integrated into the ski. There is a silver fascia or section which is just thin metal. It has no fnctional value, in short it is for the look.(and to hide plate screws ) It is clipped on and can be taken out with a thin knife blade or scraper. You now can determine where the correct screw areas for any binding can be placed. All modern Rossi, Salomon, and Fischer bindings can be installed! Just drill holes and return silver plate back on. VoilĂ , you have great ski that is much ligther and livier! Of course get this done by qualified ski technician! If he /she has problems tell them to contact me. I have just done 10 pairs for local shop. |
JulietP,
May I share my feelings with you. I never knew about skiing several years ago. I never knew about English and the "strange" customs passed along by this nation! I was very much "ill at ease" in the anglo-saxon world,,yet found some helpful people who inroduced me to this wonderful skiing world and also the "anglo-saxon" way! It is not the "facts" that are important! Since you can locate "facts" very quickly. It is the way you use these "facts" and how you determine if those facts are; relevant, true and applicable! We are all flooded with "facts". We all are ignorant of some subject matter! I am sure no one on this site ( well maybe,,just maybe Gordieski) knows about Varimax rotation, or the Reuel Christie but the some of you will emmediately go on some search engine and look up these terms! Most will not be able to determine what varimax rotation has to do with skiing, but is is used by some! The best discoveries were made by asking, "silly simple questions"! Please ask them! We are on this site because we love skiing ( some more than others) and want to share our passions. We just show our passions in different ways! The use of the information you get on this site is what is important. Many years ago we admired people who could store all sorts of information ( sometimes never using it)! Now it is how you; select, analyse and use that information which is of prime importance! You are so welcome here! You decide which information source is relevant for your needs! One small example will drive the message home! I hope you are following the "American Saga"! Lots lots of experts! Lots and lots of information. Who is right/wrong? The person who can discern the relevant information and apply it effectively will become a "success". So it is in skiing. So many experts. So many sources of information. You must learn how to "select" from all those search engines ( some electronic some human) ! J2ski may not be the first ski site (yet),,but by far it is the most "repectful and intelligent" on the net! Welcome! PS. Now go a find that reuel christie move! |
Wanderer,
You are right,,I made a mistake. I should have mentionned the structured, well planned ski lessons. The reason I forgot this? (not an excuse) I focussed on the learner and how he/she deals with becoming better! Also I love round numbers; 5, 10 50 100 etc,,, so suggesting 6 items or factors just makes me look for 4 more to get that magic 10! Too lazy that day! For you "aspiring" expert skiers,,,,by all means do take ski lessons with a "certified" competent ski instructor that you get along with! Also try to see same ski instructor so that you get progression! I often mention a "ski log" and here is a good time to repeat this! A skier's log will provide the places you have skied, the lessons you have taken and memories in future years of the progress you have made! remember that huge huge steep run you did 5 years ago at resort XZY? Now it is so easy, so small so short! You have made progress! Thank you for the comment Wanderer! |
Skiing is a great "leveller"! Let me explain!
You can have a great deal of money, but you can NOT buy the label "expert skier" ( Effective skier) You can "work out" every day, yet never earn that label, "expert skier" (effective skier) You can move to the alps, yet never become an "expert skier" (effective skier) What do you have to do or what skills you have to acquire to become that, "effective skier" This is what this post focuses on, the essential qualities needed to become an effectivet skier! The first and perhaps the most important quality needed is skiing attitude. What is this "skiing attitude"! This attitude is denoted by; -positive feelings about skiing -humble feelings about mountain, ski runs, nature -pro-active actions on ski terrain -humble acceptance of one's limitations -constant desire to improve The second quality is physical fitness. Skiing is a demanding sport! It requires the skier to push his/her physical abilities to their limits! You will never progress if you do not "push the envelope" of performance. Push your personal goals to better skiing! You get fit to ski not you ski to get fit,,,,is a popular mantra you hear from expert level skiers! The third factor is proper equipment! Assuming you are not a rank beginner, buy ski equipment that will make you progress, that will demand correct technique! In short, if you have correct attitude and believe in yourself, buy equipment for the skier you will be ( in a couple of moths) rather than the skier you are! Read this text again! It has major implications! Correct ski equipment can be a "wall" or a spring board! Take the time to know your skiing needs and do not "lower" your expectations or buying standards! In short, do not sell yourself short with cheaper equipment! The fourth factor which is essential in becoming , "an expert" is to practice your improvement every time you ski! Note I did not state ski more! Nor did I say take more ski trips! Many people do this,,yet never progress from that plateau , "the intermediate skier"! Why? Every skiing day just for one hour practice one aspect of your ski technique that is weak or flawed! For that one hour focus on that skiing technique all the way down! Be critical. Aim for perfection just for one hour! If you have to,,go to easy beginner runs for that perfection. Then move up to harder runs,,always seeking perfection! It does exist that perfect 10! The final critical quality all expert skier possesses is, adaptability! That is changing skiing style based on ski conditions! There is not one way to ski! There is not one standard skiing position. Nature will dictate how you should ski! Let me illustrate. Watch those young National team B ski racers fly down the race course! Beautiful fluid dynamic skiing with a "racing style". Take those very racers in powder up to chest level. Watch carefully. Those that ski the same style as if still racing will "blow out"! Those that adjust to new conditions will soar! Ask yourself why do most skiing "accidents" on the World Cup occur when skier "goes off line" ( not off course)? Because the ski conditions change "radically" in a fraction of a second, yet racers is still in the "icy surface skiing mode"! In short if you want to improve,,ski all sorts of conditions, all sorts of skiing styles and learn to know how to judge snow conditions for various skiing styles. Hope this short post helps you become the expert skier in you! |
