I got my new skis :mrgreen: :D :mrgreen: , They look great, can't wait to use them. But there is a piece of plastic broken in with the bindings (they were shipped separately) I can see where it looks like it snaps into the front of the binding but I don't know what to call it or if it will work like it is. Anyone know/understand what this part does and how important it is? Hopefully it is an inexpensive-easy to replace part.

Thank you,
Brad

Already done, It was ebay, the sell has 6000+ sales w/100% rating so I think they'll take care of me, just checking for alternatives in case they don't.

Thanks,
Brad

Just a point / question for new skis.

New ski's straight out of the 'wrapping' do they need to be waxed before they are broken in?? Or is the final stage of manufacture a waxing ready for the first piste???

PS - I think ebay have a dispute process, so if the seller doesn't sort out a replacement - contact ebay.
You'll never know, unless you try...

I was going to ask the same question.

I think it is mostly a cosmetic piece and could be glue together with out much problem, definitely easier than trying to send it back.

As for the prep before skiing it is advised as the manufacturers effort only lasts a day or 2. It helps to have the bases waxed and scraped before you use new skis.

brad1138 et al,,,,

All new skis must be waxed. Here is the reasons;

1.Your skis were made many many months before you bought them. The base does "dry out" in the storage and shipping process!

2. All skis have a global (wide range) wax applied.

3. The factory application is a "protection" layer which means that the ski was not "heated" for deep core wax penetration! The wax was sprayed on! One run and you have nothing left!

The question that should have been asked was, "should I individualize my new skis"

Rare is the serious skier who takes ski off rack and goes off skiing! You should;
1. de-tune ski edges to your needs
2. structure ski bases for your needs and area
3. wax skis for your area and needs

Now you are ready to ski!

Pavel,

As ever, this is good information. I wonder if you might enlighten me as to a couple of aspects.

1.Detune. I am aware of the requirement to reduce the edge sharpness at the ski tips, and the reason for this. Are there other areas along the ski that you might reduce the edge sharpness. If so, why?

2. What do you mean by "Structure ski bases"?
