I hope this helps you in your search. Please feel free to comment if this clarification is "acceptable". First a small comment about "fuzzy" question. Several persons have written about skiing "history". Depending on authors those events varied. Bandit was very correct to note the differences in events. Verbier you also were correct in noting "lack of precision", so I contacted the ski resort in question and received the "correct" information from one of the organizers of this special and unique event. Once you find out the event and resort, you will discover a "cliff-hanger" story behind this story. Tragedy, intrigue, conflict and great personal courage of one man. A great skier who risked his personal fortune to have this event in his country. What WORLD CUP SKI event happened just once in a country in August. Name country and year. The key word Verbier is just once. |

Ski companies do make some "blunders".
Two ski companies tried to "integrate" boots and skis as one package. You had to buy boots and skis together. No other match was possible due to "integration mechanism" and unique ski boots. Name the two ski companies that made this ski/boot blunder ! |

you are so right! My error ! I stand corrected. The event I am referring to is an FIS sanctioned event ! It was a special event and never ever repeated ! Hope this helps you all ! Thank you Bandit for correction. |

There is a series of events called the FIS races or World Cup Races in which the very best ski racers from every nation meet to compete. These events typically occur between November to March.
However there was a special "exception" in which this event was held in August just once. What year did this exceptional event occur and why ? |

Just visited a ski sale at a local university and am amazed how beginner skiers select their first ski.
This was a one week event where anyone can bring ski material and university takes a 10% sale commission. Saw some great great deals, but also saw some "poor" choices from beginner skiers buying boots too large, boots too worn or broken, skis too damaged etc,,, This posting is just a short list of ski buying strategies to help you get a better deal. 1. Do your homework. That is read up on ski material. Talk to persons who know a little about skiing. 2. Be modest about skiing goals and purchases. That is find out if you really like this sport before getting serious material. 3. Find out some basic "points" to look for when buying the folling; Skis: edges : de-lamination, rust, dings, burrs, amount out of sidewalls. bases : grooves, scratches, de-lamination near tips or tails top skin : quality near tip area, cuts or de-lamination, size : some persons still think long = better Not at beginner level. ( color, graphics, designs on top ski NOT important at all ) Boots : buckle condition, shell quality, take out liner to see condition Fit No pressure anywhere Hope this helps some of you. |
