Another area your Mum might like to explore is the Etale which can be reached via blue pistes from Beauregard taking the new mixed (telecabine and chair) lift, stopping for lunch at the lovely Telemark restaurant and a leisurely return to the village via the resculpted wide blue pistes and the Envers green piste. This should also be a snowsure route back to the village with the installation of snow cannons along its length, but again it can be slow if the snow is wet and sticky (not advisable on a snowboard!)
I think you'll find there is something for skiers of all abilities. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! IMHO January is one of the best times to come. :wink: |

Just to back up what Paul was saying...
We also had guests staying with us here in La Clusaz last winter who had skied in Val Thorens the previous February half term. They were telling us that the temperatures at that altitude had been so bitterly cold that they could only ski with the kids for an hour or so before having to retire to the apartment or restaurant to warm up again. So high isn't necessarily best! I was also told by a guide from La Grave that La Clusaz has the best snow record for its altitude across the whole of the Alps! Looking out the window today you certainly wouldn't doubt that! :wink: This year, the snow cannon coverage has been extended to over 150 cannons to open up even more runs back to the village should we suffer a repeat of last season. You will have a great time here - don't worry! :D |

Just a quick update to let you know that it's been dumping down above about 1000m over the past 24 hours! Woke up to this view on the decking this morning...
Updated 11/12/07 to show past 2 days snow depths (I cleared left-hand side after first day of snow) 
We're at about 1400m here in La Clusaz and have had about 40-50cm (still snowing) so far which probably translates to 60-80cm at the top of the mountain. Reports from the locals say that they'll be opening the La Balme area this weekend. Hope to be driving over to Avoriaz tomorrow where the lifts are already open so will try and post some pics of the conditions there later in the week. |
