You could do worse than go to Innsbruck, it's a lovely city there are slopes nearby, it's the only place I've ever caught a city tram to go skiing! There are some very goods resorts nearby; Igls, Axmer Lixxum etc and if your timing is right, Xmas or New Year, you could get to see some ski-jumping. So lots to do and everything you'd expect in a city.

Chamonix is a great place to stay with some of the most awesome skiing on the planet, St Anton is likewise, a terrific resort, but if you're staying for a month and want to get absolutely the maximum from your trip I'd recommend staying in Bourg St Maurice, which is a valley town not a resort but every resort inb the Haute Tarentaise is within 40 minutes drive. You've got over 1,600 kms of pistes available, in Val d'Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs, Ste Foy and La Rosiere which has a link to La Thuile in Italy. BSM has a direct link to Les Arcs via the funicular railway, you've also got La Plagne a little further away. In addition to the all the pisted skiing you've got some of the best off-piste you'd find anywhere. Good luck with your trip, wherever you go you're sure to find skiing in Europe very different to skiing in the US.

You'll find La Rosiere is a super resort for families, it's well set up for learning, there are 3 good ski schools and an excellent creche/nursery with its own ski area, the beginners pistes and lifts are free, they're very close to the village so it's easy for the family to meet at lunchtime. The skiing is varied, there are over 150 kms of pistes in France and Italy and the ski pass is terrific value, the reosrt is high at 1850 metres, very snow-sure and the slopes are mostly south facing so it's usually sunny.
We have a chalet in La Rosiere and we've some special deals for January, with big discounts for kids, but for beginners I'd reccommend going in March or April when the days are longer and warmer. Have a look at our website www.trackvactions.com for full details, there's a link from our website to the La Rosiere tourist office so you can view the piste maps, ski schools, ski lift prices and get a view of the village. Hi, we can offer the week commencing 4th March in Chalet le Mouflon, La Rosiere 1850, it's a great resort for mixed ability groups with a good mix of pistes and some of the best off-piste in the Tarentaise, it's the only resort in France that offers heli-skiing. The ski area is shared between France and Italy which gives us a very different feel to the mega ski-stations nearby.
See our ad in the ski chalets section or go to our website ww.tracksvacations.com for more details, we offer j2skiers a discount a swell as the usual group discounts. We also provide free transfers to/from Geneva and ski-hosting so you get the most from your lift pass whic is very good value. David |
