Hey everyone this is my first post!
I am thinking very great fantasy thoughts about spending a month in europe to do some skiing and living. (from america)

Was thinking that it would be good to be in a couple different places for the stay. We are 25 yr old males wanting to have a good time after the slopes so we want a town that would be lively but very close to the slopes like south lake tahoe kinda. Hopefully that narrows it down.

a lively nice size town with great skiing in 20 min or so! any ideas in europe somewhere!

thanks so much its really hard trying to figure this one out without some help from you people!

Hi, and welcome...

European skiing with partying? If you're here for a month, you should consider spending some time in these places for starters :-

Verbier, Switzerland
Chamonix, France
St. Anton, Austria

All three have great ski areas (big mountain access with plenty of freeride terrain) with modern lift systems and all three have lively apres-ski. Verbier is maybe the most expensive (be careful where you drink if on a budget) and St. Anton perhaps the most rocking. Chamonix gives you access to Mont Blanc (guide required). All are pretty cosmopolitan with a great mix of nationalities nowadays.

But you've got so many other possibilities too... if you're comfortable with a "road trip" then hire yourselves a car and follow the snow.

Caveats -

Mid-February is peak school holiday time and skiing in the big resorts is best avoided. Late January and any time in March are your best bets for un-crowded slopes, unless you sacrifice some apres-ski time and go ski in one of the many, many, smaller resorts.

European off-piste ("out of bounds") is generally not patrolled but is rarely fenced off; you are welcome to ski at your own risk! Verbier has a number of "itineraries" - marked trails that are neither patrolled or groomed (but at least you won't fall off a cliff if you follow the trail).

Do you know when you'll be travelling? Winter seems to be starting a little late in France...

Chamonix is a great place to stay with some of the most awesome skiing on the planet, St Anton is likewise, a terrific resort, but if you're staying for a month and want to get absolutely the maximum from your trip I'd recommend staying in Bourg St Maurice, which is a valley town not a resort but every resort inb the Haute Tarentaise is within 40 minutes drive. You've got over 1,600 kms of pistes available, in Val d'Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs, Ste Foy and La Rosiere which has a link to La Thuile in Italy. BSM has a direct link to Les Arcs via the funicular railway, you've also got La Plagne a little further away. In addition to the all the pisted skiing you've got some of the best off-piste you'd find anywhere. Good luck with your trip, wherever you go you're sure to find skiing in Europe very different to skiing in the US.
