Spending the winter in Italy skiing
Started by User in Italy, 2 Replies
Courmeyer is probably the best of the Aosta resorts but I'm not sure I'd want to spend a whole seasom there. La Thuile is a very nice resort with some surprising good skiing especially the Black runs back down through the trees and the link to La rosiere in France but it's not the liveliest place you'll ever visit. Agree with the suggestion to base yourself in France, if you stayed in La Rosiere for example you'd have Vald'Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs and Ste Foy all within 40 minutes travel and you'd be able to ski Italy on the same great value lift pass.

Tizwaz, we can offer you a week in our catered chalet Le Mouflon in La Rosiere 1850, this is the comment about La Rosiere's snow certainty from The 'Where to Ski and snowboard Guide' for 2006 which lists La Rosiere as one of the most snowsure resorts in Europe. "This modern resort sits at an elevated position at the end of the long Tarentaise valley which runs roughly SW-NE. Both the village and the ski area are open to the storms from the West and South West that are funnelled into the Tarentaise valley.
La Rosiere receives the full energy of these storms and gets more snow than, for example, nearby Val d'Isere at the same altitude".
The week is available @ £370.00 per person, with a 5% discount for J2Skiers, we aso provide a free transfer to/from Geneva and ski-hosting, our website www.tracksvacations.com has full details.

Stephen, we offer you a week in our catered chalet in La Rosiere 1850 in either late Jan or early Feb. Jan prices are £360 per person and feb prices are £420 per person. We also offer J2Skiers a 5% discount. We can arrange ski hire, ski lessons and ski schools for you, we have a free transfer to/from Geneva on Sunadys so you miss the Saturday scrum but still have a good choice of low cost flights. La Rosiere is a great resort for beginners, you can find full details of our holidays on www.tracksvacations.com where you can see what our previous guests have said about us.

Ash28, you may like to consider La Rosiere, it's a traditional mountain village, so it doesn't look like Basildon with snow, there's agood mix of runs and the skiing is linked with Le Thuile in Italy so it has a different ambience to other French resorts. It's high at 1850 metres so it's very snow sure and the slopes in January will be relatively empty, it's very popular with |french families so it's only in the main holiday periods thgat it gets busy. There's a reasonable apres-ski scene and it's not wildly expensive compared to the mega resorts nearby. The lift pass is also very good value. We have to declare an interest in promoting La Rosiere, we have a chalet there -Le Mouflon, with some very good deals in January. Our website is ww.tracksvacations.com where you can find full details.
Salomon Pilots

I bought a pair when they first arrived about 4 years or so ago iI still have them, they've had alot of use including my son using them for a season as a ski guide. When I bought I tried about 6 different skis and settled on the salomons as having the best performance. I was surprised because I'm not a fan of salomon, I've had too many of their crap products over the years. However since then the Salomons have been surplanted by a pair of K2 Axis Pros and Dynastar Intuitiv 74s. It's personal preference but I don't think salomons are well made skis, any that I have owned have never lasted as long or been as tough as the equivalent K2s or Dynastars which I especially rate. I feel that the pilot system has been matched by the other companie's technologies like the dynastar autodrive where the binding is mounted on a plate that allows the ski to flex beneath it. If anyone wants to buy a secondhand pair of Pilot 10's hardluy used for the past 3 years anyway, you can contact me here.

I'm a refugee as well, but I know from talking to David Goldsmith who has done a super job on behalf of the 'registered non-members' us that the establishment is having second thoughts. Expect to see an announcement some. For my part I would be sad to see the Ski Club go. I think it has done a lot for British skiing but it's best days are well behind it. I'm also an ex-member who left because I couldn't see what they were doing for me. I am certain the future is in forums like this, but at some stage, especially if there are lots of members, a la Ski Club forums then it may be become difficult to resist commercial pressures.
