Holiday tickets for Tahoe and Whistler

I'm trying to decide between North Tahoe and Whistler for this winter. If anyone's been to both - can you help me decide? Like compare and contrast :) What can I expect from each in terms of the mountains, general culture of the resorts and the holiday time?

Does anyone know of the best ways to get the ticket packages (7-10 days) for the holidays? Should I buy them now or wait a bit? What about renting - how much more expensive would it be to rent there vs. rent in the Bay Area and bring the gear with me?

Any caveats that one should be aware of ?

WHISTLER!!!!

Whisther is AMAZING!! Definately the best resort in the world. I went there 2003/4 and was amazing. North Tahoe is supposed to be good to but i think Whistler is better judging by some of the thoughts of people i know that have been to both many times...

Hi - have been to both. Without doubt WHISTLER is the better resort. Great skiing, great apres ski and lovely people (Canadians). Also much easier to get there. Went to Tahoe for Millenium and it was a bit of a let down - alright but not as good as Whistler.

Indeed, the skiig is great, but it's blooming frezzing, and expensive to eat out (if you can get in anywhere)
