Bandit is so correct !
Never but never tie your "ribbon" to your boots! The function of that ribbon is not to hold the ski down! Its function is for you to locate your ski in the powder after you fall! Just tuck ribbon in your powder cuff ( most ski pants have one) ! Many many years ago,,,there were "safety straps",,which were NOT safe at all since they were tied to boots! Many ,may older skiers have scars on their heads from the skis whipping around after a fall ! If you fall,,,you want skis to get far away from you since it is now a weapon !!!! The lightest,,brightest, wildest ribbon will do ! Please do not get a white ribbon ! Go to sewing shop to get cheapest ! Pavel |
What Trencher and AndyMaxwell note is very important.
Those "power straps" do the fine tuning of the boot and boot flex! As a general rule of thumb; +130 flex is for "thunder thighs" racers! Most skiers do not need such flex levels. 100- 120 range is fine for most male skiers 60-80 range for most women skiers except those "dynamic". top level women skiers who know what degree their edges are bevelled! One small hint to those top level women and men skiers! Get a second power strap just for tongue and boot liner ( not boot shell ) ! You will discover an added benefit ! Hope this helps you all ! Hard or soft setting,,,,that is up to you,,,but once you decide,,,,,, stop playing around with setting ! You want your brain to adjust to boot/ski mating !!! |
Bald_Eagleman, gives excellent method of selecting ski length,,,with one exception as you become a "better" skier.
Yes by all means use the chin to nose range,,but as you get better the cut or way a ski is designed has some importance. For GS type skiing a longer ski above nose is preferred for stability. For powder skiing a longer ski ( and wider ski ) is preferred since you want to float on snow surface ! Of course try all types of skis and all types of lengths for your personal selection ! The choice is yours! Pavel |
esrg,
So right! I meet so many 40ish people that are so old,,,,,,and then those 70ish children that have a twinkle in their eyes. That are told to "act their age" ! Yes never too old to try ! My motto embroidered on the back of my ski jacket is, " Live to ski,,,,,ski to live " Nothing more to be said,,,,,except to ski ! Pavel |
Lota,
I hope you have recovered well. Take time to heal this,,since it can be very very painful! Soon you will be skiing! Pavel |
Dave Mac,
I stand "corrected"! You are right Dave ,,,,I was wrong! She gave me wrong age ! She is younger than I thought! Have a great skiing season ! Pavel |
Sorry but "BEST SKIS" does not exist for all skiers!
The question should be,,,"best or most compatible skis for me " The "me' is the key term ! All skis are great now,,the "trick" is to find THAT ski that will compliment you! How you ski where you ski and what you want in a ski! No one can tell you what ski is "best" for you! 15 minutes on the slopes with you, would tell me what kind of ski you need! I would need to see how you "stand" on the skis. I would need to see how you turn on the skis! I would need to see how you "tame" the skis in varied ski conditions! May I suggest you try mant types of skis and slowly narrow range to 3 skis! Then "hire" them for a week ! Sorry if I can not find THE ski for you ! You are the only only one who can do that ! Good luck finding your "mate" ! Pavel |
