Just finished my last Spring skiing.
As I skied down thought about how skiers missed this great chance to ski in sun, +15 c weather, shorts, T-shirt and yes no hat/helmet/scarf, etc,,,, Just free ! No skiers to hit you. Alone in a huge huge ski resort, The silence is "moving" . Yes I had to climb up for 2 hours a ski center which still had lots of snow,,but was "closed" due to lack of skiers. You must try it. It is a great way to say goodbye to skiing and leaves a "glow" all summer long. Now to dream of skiing in my hammock. |
Ranchero,
He is right on the money,,yes in moguls you "pivot", or set a quick set edge on flanks of moguls. No serious carving there. On moguls you never go across slope, rather you take the fall line route. Again you must adapt your skiing style to terrain and what you want to do . Thanks Ranchero. |
I agree with most of comments above.
If I had my choice I would not go to Tremblant for these reasons; 1. better snow and skiing out west ( Big White, Fernie Panorama, Lake Louise ) 2. Small center 3.icy since too much traffic with "slum condos on cliff side " 4.too expensive since it has the "interwest design" . Get skiers to center then suck out all money from them in all services. 5.Artificial "european village" 6. Very cold in first two on new year. 7. If good skier after 2 days ,,,,bored Just my opinion. |
Not sure where to place this.
Not sure what to call this. So let me explain its origins. I have a ski friend who is a well known, high powered attorney who confessed to me that he wished so much to learn how to ski powder. That was his goal. After discussing with him all the techniques, the special skis and the preparation for heli skiing, I realized he was missing the most important element in the preparation for true powder skiing. His mental set. What should happen in his mind. So I sent him this "guide" and made him promise to read it everyday before he began his work day. It might help some of you become great powder skiers. Laugh Listen Hard Breath Easy Ski To the Edge Caress the Flakes Do What you love best Ski as if no one is watching Leave work with no regrets Appreciate a long deep storm Ski as if that is all there is in life Allow the child in you to take over Come early, never stop and leave late Only one way to ski powder, fast and softly Keep your mouth shut while skiing the deep Never share your powder day with non skiers ( they will not understand) Once on a powder run, never stop till you are at bottom Above all remember those leashes Pavel gave you Finally you have ONE life Live it Sorry to say, he as already ,missed two huge storms. Hope some of you are more "powder skiers" Enjoy you summer Pavel |
Prices on slope are always too much.
Plus quality is poor. Better to get all drinks "in village" and get great foods made before get to resort. In Utah there are all night grocers that make fresh subs with all you want. I would stop at 6 AM get a giant fresh sub, 4 liters of "Simply Lime " which I would hide in various parts of the mountain. Never stop skiing. Just eat on way up. Drink at top where drink stash was ! |
There is not ONE way to ski.
An effective skier varies his/her stance, fore/aft pressure based on conditions, snow type, terrain, etc,,,. Thus on fast fast groomed carving Gs type turns you "open up" to get that "rail" feel. Yes two distinct grooves. In moguls where you want very quick edge sets, fly off the tops soaring, and fall line wiggle moves ski are close together. In powder (+40 cm. ) you again vary your stance. If you have those fat fat + 115 mm. surfing boards you can open up legs since each board has great floatation potential. In short not one way to ski all terrain. You must learn to vary "style" . |
Are 175cm ski's good for a 5'4 & 130lb intermediate skier ?

Tito,
Much too long. Send me via PM your address. I noticed you are 15 and this should not have happened. I have several skis from the Fischer ski company perhaps one could be correct for you. Will check how much shipping will be,,,if reasonable I will send you a early Christmas present. Would a Fischer GS World Cup PRO 160 CM. be acceptable for you ? Pavel |
The above posts clearly explain those numbers.
May I add the following. 1. You should know "your numbers" that is your release value by heart. Insist that this value be always used! 2. You should once a year have this value checked via "an electronic" or manual test bench. All very very good ski shops have them. 3.AS important that this DIN value is the rear tension setting ( which has no indicated value). That tension must be done by a qualified person. You do not learn on internet how to do this . Trust me. Just knowing how to do DIN value without this rear tension adjustment will cause you much grief. Your safety and legs are more important ! Get it done by a qualified technician or someone like Trencher! In short 1-4 DIN values children women 5-8 90 % of skiers fall in this range 8+ very heavy skiers or expert level racer type skiers Pavel |
