and in the next few years it will get more complicated, as ski incorperate combination cambers/reverse cambers in a single ski, and klothoid sidecuts. It will be very hit or miss, if you don't understand the technology, and can't demo a bunch of skis.

I had to look up Klothoid (clothoid) sidecuts  The concept is hard for me to grasp!

Nice straightforward explanation of sidecuts here..

All of this simply over complicates what should be a relatviely simple decision based on your ability and physique. Unless you are a pro of course. But for the recreational skier, its starting to get a bit too much.

Went to look at some skis yesterday. Went to 2 shops, the 1st shop a teenager recomended some skis which apparently "ripped the piste up" and "arced like a bi$*h" and had a "doudy" picture on the ski. :x I left!

The 2nd said Id ski well on the K2 Apache Recon, Head Peak 70, Scott aztec, Salomon tornado Ti all over £400. The best would be K2 Apache and the most expensive at £500  and they can also do the ironing etc so the bloke in the bloody expensive shop said so it must be right

So i explained what i wanted and its my 1st ski etc so off he goes and 10 seconds later produces a K2 Apache Sidewinder which is last years ski at £300 with bindings. I ski on a 170 but this ski apparently ticks all my boxes but its a 177. Now i will try and explain his theory about the size, here goes.... The skis where i ski have a rounded tip but the tail is flat but these K2s are rounded at either end so the bloke in the expensive shop says if you cut of the bit (not literally) on the tail which is rounded it would be a 170 :?: wtf!!!!! By this time my heads battered and my other half has bought a bloody helmet

mfc, the salesman was quite right about the twin tips effect, you will lose ski length as it's turned up and not in the snow.
K2's are a heavy ski, and Recons's would not be my suggestion for a 1st time purchase, but what do I know

The Sidewinders are a fair price, Nevisport has then with a Marker 12 binding for £315.

I wont be getting the Recons at £500 however my O/ half fell in love with them, weird really she practically purred over them  Even said shed help pay for them.... I feel im going to get shafted for something soon )
