K2's are a heavy ski, and Recons's would not be my suggestion for a 1st time purchase, but what do I know

The Sidewinders are a fair price, Nevisport has then with a Marker 12 binding for £315.

Hard work this ski choosing lark innit )

So what your saying is if i got K2 skis at 170 they would really be a 163 or 164? I wont be getting the Recons at £500 however my O/ half fell in love with them, weird really she practically purred over them  Even said shed help pay for them.... I feel im going to get shafted for something soon )

You really, really, must test some skis before you part with any money. At the moment the learning curve for you is way too steep, and you represent a salesman's dream customer!

I have a friend who used Recons' for a couple of years. He quite likes steep off piste and heli skiing. I would say his standard is between Advanced and Expert. Do you still think you fit the profile as a user?

No not at that standard but i did say I was a good intermediate who wanted to progress to advanced and wanted skis that would move with me.

The Recon are to expensive, its the K2 Apache i was shown. Where can you test last years skis? suppose i could ask at C Factore if they have test days.

Go and test this years' crop. Then have a hunt around for last year's colour )

You can put your mind at ease, and be in a stronger position in a store as you will be able ID the segment of the market you wish to purchase from.

Although it's tempting, I'd wait until I was on the snow if I were you, and could try some pairs out and simply see which ones work best. My first pair of bought skis came from a UK shop but subsequently, I did far better hiring and then buying.

Going to test some skis at chill F soon but went to a shop in Clapham and was advised on getting Scott mission @ £525  or Salamon, lord @£520

Heads battered over getting skis thought it would be much easier than this. I left the shop being more confused after him throwing so much info at me, he knew his stuff but it was going over my head and he knew it as well.

mfc, quite a bit of cr@p seems to have landed in your lap this week, try and find some time to read a few reviews. For example, I would be cautious about Salomon Lords, as there have been some reports of delam circulating (which may or not be genuine).
