Am I missing some sarcasm here or are you really saying that rain improves the slopes?

I would have thought that rain was terrible for the snow  .... and there is lots forecast for lower loevels at Laax over the next week before I get there -though thankfully falling as snow higher up

No Wanderer, I don't do sarcasm. Within reason, my view is that there is a freshening effect when operating on machine snow base, that has mixed with natural, and converted to spring snow.
The effect is like skiing on a couple of inches of fresh snow, it's very enjoyable. Plus the slopes are empty!

Take lots of layers. Wear one layer on Saturday... you'll be needing all of them by Monday/Tuesday!

Looking like -10C ish at resort level from Tuesday on, for much of The Alps.

Well, take it from me, that didn't happen!

Certainly it forecast that, but things change. LOTA, if you are in Niederau, it now looks like a couple of snow days, then bluebird days ~ perfect. Ski Girl is there just now, I met her at the weekend.
Hey, ski well!

I was ski-ing in the rain in Tignes on Friday. Luckily I'd re-waterproofed my ski jacket and salopettes, and so I stayed nice and dry inside :)

But there were several very wet looking skiers/boarders around that day! One poor guy was soaked right through to his skin and apparently you could read the make of his underpants through his salopettes

However, up high it was snowing, and the next day the pistes were in very good condition :)

Best of luck with the weather everyone off ski-ing/boarding :)

Not where you were perhaps... 8)

Temps this week have been all over the place thanks to strong (Fohn) winds, cold air and temperature inversions (warmer up the mountain than in the valleys, etc). Chamonix's temperatures ranged from -12C to +6C yesterday...

And Pistehors offers this from the French forecast for today...
-20C in the Vercors at 1200m with 120km/h winds and 15cm of fresh snow

...and Icey's been in Sauze under blue skies...

So, as always, check the latest local conditions wherever you are... 8)

Were they 'smart' - 'Calvins', or 'scruffy' - 'Ethels'?
