Where you going next year?

Not sure as everything seems so expensive, hubby is reluctant to devote so much money to one week's fun, as it takes us all year to save for it, and we sometimes wonder if we aught to use that money to see more of the world than the Alps! It's our ONLY holiday which is why it has to be right. But I just can't imagine going through winter without it...not after 14 years! New possibles are Solden & St. Anton or back to somewhere we've been before like Saalbach (twice) and Obertauern (3 times). It will be Austria if anywhere, love the ski scene there. Where you off to?

France

Agreed. I don't mind spending money but I do like to receive something of proportional value in return. €8 is okay for a sandwich and coke delivered to your table by a smiling blonde Austrian girl in tradtional dress, but when handed over the counter by a gruff Frenchman using his bare hands whilst making you feel daft that you don't have a full grasp of the coloqual nuances, I know what I'd rather choose.

You can have bad experiences in any country but I must say the only place I have had rude and poor service is in Austria !!!!

Its horses for courses!
If its just the skiing in wonderous locations and conditions then many will say France but alas you need a kings ransom if you want to eat and drink and thats before you start thinking about DRINKING.
I have found the whole Austrian package has suited my groups needs over the years. Good skiing, facilities, instruction, hospitality and in this day and age moderately priced Apres etc.
I have had rude service in both France and Austria but in no more proportion than I have recieved at home.
I am a great believer in that you reap what you sow, if you treat folk as 'servants' then unless you tip handsomely you will get what you deserve.
Old habits die hard with me in that when i arrive on any holiday I put myself out on the first meeting with bar staff, waiters etc to be helpfull and polite to them and in return I have always found that they remember that thereafter when they are busy.
Austria gets my vote.
