Been to them all and would definitely go for Ishgl or Saalbach-we found the nightlife in Saalbach to be great so don't know what you have heard to the contrary.
The skiing in Ishgl would probably shade it if you are experienced skiers, otherwise Saal. is great with beautiful wide cruising runs, perfect for working on your technique!
We would love to have got back to Saal. but the accomodation has all went rather upmarket and expensive with the operators we have in Ireland but Ishgl is similar.
Either resort won't dissapoint, the other 2 are great as well!
Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Guys thanks for all your advice so far- it's been invaluable in helping me decide. I've started a new thread about accommodation in Saalbach or Ischgl and I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me...

Tony-H if youve never been to Soll, then why would you automatically dismiss it, unless because of the altitude you think it not suitable for beginners.
I'm going with friends there in January, admitted we can all ski but there seemed loads of places far and wide to ski.
Mayrhofen, on the main mountain is a nightmare if you have a beginner or inexperienced skier that is nervous of road trail links!!

Like Scarlet Fez, I struggle to see why Soll is dismissed so quickly, can someone let me know why?

All down to personal preferences, chaps. I have always turned over the brochure page when I come to Soll because it doesn't meet my own personal criteria because:

* It is low lying and even the highest peaks around are under 1800m so snow CAN be a problem
* Small village with longish walk to the lifts
* Skiwelt gets notoriously crowded

I know like everywhere I should try it before totally dismissing it, but at present I have places I want to try which are much higher on my list. Thats all. I was not dissing the place, and there is a lot of cruising mileage to do once you get up there but it just doesnt ring my bells right now.

Tino,
I haven't been to Saalbach for 37 years. What's it like now?

Have fun :D
