blodyn1 wrote:Have just returned from another fabulous week in Niederau. The temperature dropped significantly when I was there, and it snowed pretty continuously from Tuesday onwards. When I left on saturday the pistes were in great condition, and I wished that I was staying!!

Gunther's bar is definately the place to go for apres ski - lively, cheap and cheerful. Looking forward to my next visit now!!

Good to hear!! Roll on Saturday!! :)
See you on the piste!!!

Just to add to the store of knowledge about visits to the skiwelt, if you are guests of the Hotels Sonnschein, or Harfenwirt, there is free coach transport to the Hopfgarten Gondel at 9.00am every Thursday and Friday. Return at 4.30pm. Buy a pass at the lift office.

Thanks very much Dave :D

That's exactly what everyone wanted to know - about the free buses to the Skiwelt area starting in Hopfgarten.

So, if I ever go to Niederau it looks as though I'll be staying in the Sonnschein or Harfenwirt.

I guess the thing to do would be to buy a 4 day pass for the Niederau area and 2 days for the Skiwelt.

There appears to be a certain local rivalry between Skiwelt and the Niederau areas. Of course Skiwelt is much bigger. You won't, for example, see any road signs, or find any public transport in Niederau to Hopfgarten (or vice versa). Hence the free hotel bus scheme, which I believe is being financed by Skiwelt.

The two areas are in different Gemeindants, and the link road is two narrow to have a regular service on. There is no rivalry, as they have differing offers. The long term discussions relate to link ups with schiwelt/wildschonau/alpbachtal. but as youcan appreciate, this is a complicated process. The free bus scheme started in a small way, and is now being pushed by the two hotels. Others will pick this up, and then market forces are likely to encourage further development.

Thanks for the info Dave. I think we may well give that a whirl. It would be good if some arrangement could eventually be made to link the areas. N seems to be well placed for easy access to a few different resorts. Interesting....
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain
