Hi Paul. Errm, I can ski all of Niederau's main runs in 47 minutes. That has not prevented me from skiing there for 41 years. I have skied in many places, on many continents, but I keep returning to Niederau.
If I used your logic, I can ski just Niederau, in 47 minutes, nip over to Hopgarten, do all of the Ski Welt in a smidgen over two days, so I would then need to go to Kitzbuhle, (under 2 days) and I still would need another resort to fill a week!
In almost every ski place, the best skiing has to be searched for, and found. Assuming you are not up for some good off-piste, then for those who do like challenging skiing, as Finn points out, there are areas of Niederau that are used by a number of International teams.
The Hochburg has been used as a downhill run, sadly, leading to the death of a Polish international racer. FIS downhills have been held on Tennladen.
If it is good enough for Hermann Maier, it is good enough for me!
For those skiers who knock smaller resorts, listen to your wives/girlfriends ~ do not worry, size isn't everything!

Well done Dave for skiing all of niederaus runs in 47 minutes.
To Quote you Dave " listen to your wives/girlfriends ~ do not worry, size isn't everything!" - but in your case speed is.
Maybe you should have copied and pasted my Quote
refering to the apres ski. Anyway Niederau suites you like the Gastein valley suites me . Enjoy your skiing.

This morning I had a post all nicely typed out when my laptop batt died and I had to go out :(

Anyway it went along the lines of the fact that I'm quite happy skiing the runs at 'N' because there is a pretty good range of difficulties considering the resort is so small. The bunny slopes are great for beginners, and right at the other end of the scale I've yet to see anyone making their way down the run underneath the gondola with any real style. Mr EmmaEvs has discovered the buzz of going down slopes for the first time and not knowing what to expect. I tend to find that no two runs down the same slope are identical anyway. It may be a legacy left over from when I was younger e.g. gymnastics where we'd practice the same moves over and over again, noticing the small differences each time and learning from them. The fact that I was in the exact same spot the whole time was blocked out and the 'hook' was in the detail.

Also on a personal level I love the atmosphere in 'N'. It's super chilled, everything is within walking distance, the people are really friendly and the ski instructors blessed with unbelievable patience. I've no doubt that these qualities can be found in other resorts too. I just happen to have a huge soft spot for this place ;-)

No doubt some are reading this and thinking 'my god I'm avoiding that place at all costs'. That's cool. Each to their own. Plus it leaves more room for me and Dave to play on the slopes and get to the bar :-)

Your spot on with the fact it's chilled out.Alot of the populat apres ski resorts such as Solden,Ischgl are far more "Ibiza on snow". I enjoyed Niederau as my kids had there 1st Xmas ski holiday in the resort, but if you want to blast mile after mile of piste i think all would agree that there are other options.

For niederau fans use the following link for the best web cam.

And also pop into the Auhof for a drink

Oh yes. I have been a 'several times a day' visitor to that cam for weeks now )

There's also another couple, one in N and another in Auffach...

At the top of the Markbachjoch gondola (bottom left) there is a little yellow camera symbol. Click on that for one. The other is at the top of the long lift on the right hand side in Auffach, click on the little yellow camera symbol there.

Oh roll on pleeeeeaaaasssseeee. Mind you I'd rather be in 'looking forward to it' mode, than in 'I've just come back and have another year to go' mode. :)

Oh by the way Swell you can pick up day passes to other resorts and get there easily enough from 'N'. Mr Emmaevs wants to look into going to Soll for the day when we go. It's about 20mins away and you can catch a cab. I'm sure someone has posted that info somewhere on here already and I'm just thieving it. Sorry - I fell on my head (literally) on the weekend so I'm gonna blame that if I have duplicated the info.
