I don't really see it as a loss, "N" is not really high on my agenda, I have read nothing so far about the place that draws me to it, apart from the bloke who plays the harp but then again I go on a ski holiday to ski, It would be a terribly boring world if we were all the same.

I have read several posts on this forum about the bloke playing the harp. They all seem to say "be sure to find out which night is harp night" but they don't say if this means go and see him or try to avoid him.
Is he worth seeing?

I remember a couple of seasons ago in Adelboden tucking in to a nice bowl of soup and a beer and you couldn't hear your self slurp because of the bloody oompah band playing in the back ground,
I did ask them if they could play a tad quieter but they just laughed, I didn't know the Germanic street preachers had a sense of humour.

I haven't been to Saas Fe, but what I have read of it, and what people tell me who have been it sounds miles better than Niederau. But I am yet to find out for myself.

I agree with what was said - if you don't like it, don't go back. One thing is for certain, I won't. It simply had nothing there of interest for me, apart from the slopes at Auffach for a couple of days at best. It's definitely not a loss not going back there.

I think the comment about the beginner slopes being in the shade was not about the quality of the snow (when I was there they were very icy and stoney as well) but more about the fact that the learners never see daylight and are very cold all the time. It must be horrible for little ones.

Swell;
If you are looking for great places to drink I shall give you my opinion of the local bars!

White Rabbit Bar: This bar is the place to be if you want to have fun with the locals. It has friendly bar staff and an excellent atmosphere.

Cave Bar: This is also an excellent bar, mostly filled with tourists at peak times. The bar staff are so a good laugh (especially Jim)

Dorfstube: Although I haven't been there a lot this year, this bar is also good fun. But normally there are running parties in Cave Bar or White Rabbit.

If you want to know any more about Niederau, then fire away, as I am currently living out here.

Thanks Dan,
I'm curious about the rumoured free bus to Hopfgarten (to connect into the Skiwelt) from a couple of the hotels. Do you have to be staying in those hotels to get it, and does it run all week or only on certain days?

If I was ever going to go to Niederau (and I'm quite curious to see it after all the discussion about it) I'd want to ski some of the Skiwelt as well.

You would have to ask hotels individually if they have their own buses running to Hopfgarten. There are currently no public buses running to Hopfgarten.

You could catch a bus to Worgl and then to Hofgarten; but of course, this would take about 35-40 minutues with the switches and waiting. You could hire a taxi as the trip is only about 10-13 minutes away if you have a large group the cost would turn out bare minimum.

Thanks Dan,
Have you any idea how much a taxi would cost? Obviously I'd need one out there and back again at the end of the day, and they'd have to be able to carry skis.

Honestly, I don't know. But considering a taxi to Worgl costs about £12 one way, I think Hopfgarden would be the same price.

Considering what hotel you are at, there are normally tourists at certain hotels that would be willing to tag along with your taxi journey.

I was wondering about it because I read this:

Plus, there's a free bus on Thursdays and Fridays from the Sonnschein and the Harfenwirt taking you over to Hopfgarten, so it's easy to ski the Ski Welt and stay in Niederau.

on:

http://ski-buzz.co.uk/2010/12/23/sun-snow-and-soll/

and I was wondering if it was true. Do you think, maybe next time you're in the Sonnschein or the Harfenwirt you could ask them please? It's not so much for me, because I might never go there, but for other J2ski readers.

Thanks,

Ally
