A small hint

Ise,
On my Rossignol World Cup SL and GS skis I have a plate which has four such slots!

On my Salomon GS skis I have a LAB plate that has two such slots.

However you are correct "average" skiers who have no concept of what a plate does and have no technical knowledge should not play around with bindings.

But on this site and in this section of the sire, I believe I am addressing myself to "above-average" skiers! Skiers who want to know why! Who want to get the most from their equipment!

In the future I will prepare a "legal disclaimer" to protect this site and myself from persons who might sue due to my comments! You are Europeans however not Americans!

Hamish,
I can not tell you all my secrets! That screw which is responsible for your falling.......you will find it soon!

And so you bring me to another story! Which might help you find your screw Hamish!

I once had a middle aged man who insisted in watching his ski tips as he skied! As a result he was always late in his turns, late in selecting where to turn and often late in avoiding that tree, tower or skier!
I tried all sorts of ways to get him to get rid of that habit,,to no avail! I nearly gave up,,,,,,then while in ski lift line I found my solution!
A good teacher tries to think like the student! Tries to use clues and "inspirations" from the student!

Ahead of use was a beautiful, expert women skier! I noticed that Ralph ( the ski tip man) was giving this women lots of attention! We happen to go up one chair behind this women! I made a bet with Ralph as we went up chair. If he could watch this women's lower back all the way down the ski run, I would introduce him to her !
He must ski 3 meters behind her and be her shadow , at all times watching her!

Remember I did say she was an expert skier! The magnetism was too strong,,Ralph stuck to her as she flowed and soared down a most expert run ( that Ralph never dared take) He was so focussed on her....back that he forgot about the speed, forgot about the ski tips! He was like a moth who was mesmerized by light!

At the bottom she came to a neat long turn and stop!He a second later was there! Finally I arrived! I had never seen Ralph ski so fast, so clean, so smooth!

He had won his bet ( and more)! I had to do the introductions! "Ralph, this is my sister! Lana this is Ralph, he would like to tell you about his ski tips" I said.

Off they went, forgetting me!

10 years later I am teaching his boy who seems to have ski tip problems also but he is only 4! You see Ralph married Lana soon after this discovery that it pays to follow a women where ever she goes! Take that screw out Hamish and let skis go!

Sam,
I hope I did not "seem" negative and "out of touch"! That was not my intent! It was to make skiers realize that there is no hard fast rule , truth or way!

Each person has to determine which is better! Once a year I get my Lange yellow boots out, my Head Standards. and my old army surplus ski jacket! They remind me how those "good old days" were not as good as my memory makes me think!

The Lange's are like pure vices with no flex at all! They beat any modern racing boot! Now I know why I lost some of my toe nails! No blood going to them.

Those Heads! Like cobras whipping about once they go over the smallest bump! At 215 cm. they look and feel more sidewinder missiles wanting to go one way, "straight" How did I do it!!!! The radius cut on them were 34 meters,, just like a pefect World Cup downhill ski! Those tiny Look Nevada bindings, no idea how they held!

Skiers comment on the wild boarder's outfits! Well my army surplus ski jacket makes my wife and kids refuse t ski with me!

I do however win the most "unusual" ski outfit of the 60's in the retro ski contest! Unusual,,,,that was the style then! Shame on all you old skiers! You had no clothing style! But did you ever ski!

Welcome back Sam! Just get a clothing consultant to fill you in on the latest!
