Hey!!! That's my powder and my resort...you have your own
Lovely set of photos, Bendolla snow cover is looking better than I saw it most of last winter. Please try not to wear the snow out before I can get there, thanks :D

As you mentioned often it is a "mental" issue since in steep sections you have to allow ski to go down fall line, yet fall line means speed = fear!

I reminds me of a frequent skiing SIN that you see often! I call it the "birds on the wire" problem!

Here is the context.

In Lake Placid there is a top run used for the downhill which starts with a very steep drop! From the top of the chairlift there is a "cat walk" about 2 meters wide which leads to intermediate runs. However the "expert" run is right off the chairs and remember there is no room to "chat"!

You still get 5-10 "expert"skiers on the top of the lip, of the run looking where to go! Trying to decide where the first turn will be! Were there is just a little less ice. Where it seems to be alright to "turn"!

Meanwhile,, like in the Charlie Chaplin movie,,the goods are coming up and piling up in this section!

The longer you wait and think of what and where to go the the less it seems you will survival that first 15 meters of free fall!

The problem you bring up Jan is there!

When I ski with my sons and we are going up this chair to this run,,we know what we will see, "birds on the wire" all lined up at the lip! Chirping!!!! This way! That way!!! No NO which way!

We plan our moves on the chair! We decide who will go first and right away it is fall line! The most dangerous is the first 3 meters. Not because of the steepness, but because as you noted many skiers go "traverse" in the steeps! They wipe out or "skid" those first few meters!

Yes that first turn is the key turn!

Pavel, this is excellent observation, and "spot on" in terms of skier (and boarder) behaviour. I know I am guilty of it
I shall keep in mind "birds on a wire" this winter, and work on modifying my behaviour )

Bourg St Maurice Information

Hi John
I have stayed in Bourg St Maurice for a few days during the ski season and consider it to be a great little town that has a proper existence and good infrastructure.
As a tourist, I would say, it's got some decent supermarkets, where folks (including chalet operators) drive in from Km's around the valley, to do the shop up.
There are plenty of restaurants, memorable for me, are Bazoom, directly opposite the train station, and the Chinese Buffet, also in the same block, which was very good value. There are lots of bars, some are close to the funicular and a good place to stop off after a days' skiing.

It's a much cheaper place to eat and drink when compared to the Les Arcs resort prices.

Access to skiing is very easy if you have a car. Parking at the Funicular is free, and it only takes about 8 minutes up to Arc 1600. You can buy a Les Arcs Pass or a Paradiski, which will cover La Plagne as well. It's possible to upgrade the Arcs pass on a daily basis I think. This coming winter the ski pass "roaming" facility which exists around the Tarentaise will have a 10 Euro surcharge attached!
For phones, have you considered swopping your SIM card for a service like 0044.com, have a look at their prices and service levels. It is tempting to just buy a cheap PAYG in a supermarket though!
transfer from girona to pas de la casa

Sorry scottdog28, I can't recommend anywhere to stay in Pas, and those apts you mention do look quite smart. I would suggest that you rent an apt that's slightly bigger than your group numbers, so that you're not cramped.

There are really sound reasons for Andorra being a Duty Free, independent tax haven. One of them is that it's quite a way from....anywhere )

There are plans to build an airport close by though..

Of course, if it is to be built by Spanish constructors, then the timescale may slip somewhat

is it possible to get to pas de la casa from barcalona via train??

There is no rail service. The nearest train station is at Puigcerdà, which is east of Andorra. To use the train, you would need to catch a train from El Prat airport, into Barcelona city, then change. Puigcerdà is the end of the line, and you would then need to catch a bus to Andorra La Vella and onward to Pas de La Casa. Bit of a messy journey!

Had a claim on my policy last season and wasn't desperately impressed.

For peace of mind and a good track record, I suggest checking out Snowcard. They are a skiing and activity specialist insurer, and have policies that can be tailored to specific needs.
