im looking to travel with 6 others from ginrona to pas de la casa.
can anyone tell me how long it takes and how much, i just read that a shuttle takes 5 hours!? costing 54 pounds and so thought id might be just as easy to go from barcelona??

many thanks!

I'm guessing that you are wanting a private transfer. Alternatively Novatel runs a public bus service from Girona 2x daily for 46 Euros return. It's 177 kilometres (ish) each way, and only runs to Andorra La Vella.
Barcelona/Girona/Pergignan are all about the same distance away. The shortest route from Girona to Pas de la Casa is NOT autoroute and will be slow to very slow in winter . You must take snowchains, if you rent a car/minibus for yourself.
The road up to Pas de la Casa from the French side is sometimes not ploughed after a big snowfall, due to local disputes. This led to coaches with British skiers being stuck on the hill overnight a while ago.

For me, it's important to have my own space, to be able to eat exactly what I want, when I want, and not share a bathroom. I'm with msej449 and I'm prepared to pay to do my own washing up! I'm an antisocial old git really :D

Don't know anything about insurance, but was wondering how that injury is now. Good to hear it hasn't put you off.

Hi

Knee is very good thank you. . The only cure can be a good downpoor of the white stuff and some serious ski time.

Oh snap! happy yo hear it! I'm waiting for this heat spell in Ohio to lift and give way to snow.
I'm going to look into some of this providers as well

IceGhost Most of the companies mentioned in this thread so far, are UK businesses, and will only accept you if you are UK resident. Always check the very small print

Here's a linky to a skiers' photoblog which shows the Footworks Chamonix experience. Shows his g/f getting boots fitted...

ellistine has gone off to Boot Camp today, so he will be flying in to Geneva. He can report back and advise us all on the luggage trolley deposits!

Also, the coach dropps me at Bourg-Saint-Maurice station or something and I need to get a shuttle to Plagne Centre... is this a simple procedure?

If your coach service is dropping you at Bourg St Maurice, then you will have passed Aime, which is the valley town for La Plagne. Shuttle services run from Aime to La Plagne.
Ask your operator where they will be stopping once they reach the Tarentaise.

queen_sheba wrote:hi there,

I live in edinburgh - we have one boot shop/maybe two.

there's another two in Glasgow.

I'm going to les gets/morzine area for xmas....so if you know of any good bootfitters there?

last year i got a pair of hundred year old big clumpy mens boots because i have large/short calves and they couldn't get much to fit me. the hire shops don't really seem to care what they give you - especially when they are busy.

I had to go back 5 times to get them sorted....only felt right on the last day (and when i say right - i mean, no pins and needles, no pain where the clips were at the top...etc..etc)

I would like a pair of ladies ones or something specially tailored for my larger calves and require a fair bit of hight inside....

cheers

Blues ski shop, I believe are both in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and have a fairly good reputation for boot fitting.
Yes, you absolutely need a womans boot, since the cuff will be slightly lower and wider, the heel narrower etc.
There are very good bootfitters in Chamonix which will be an hour away from Les Gets if you have transport, Footworks opposite the Aguille du Midi cable car, also Sanglard Sports in the town.
If you can get fitted out in your 1st language it will be easier to provide the fitter with info when they need to do tweaks! You have an indoor snow slope at Braehead, where you can test out the boots before heading to resort.

If all you manage to achieve is to find out your Mondopoint size and which manufacturers last you need to be buying, do that. It will avoid a lazy dealer selling you boots that are too big...."but oh they are so comfy" (for 3 weeks or at least until the liner settles anyway ))...then you can buy some more....geddit!
Good Luck, achieving a well fitting ski boot takes time and effort!
