just a little tip i learnt whilst learning to ski is if like me you were not the quickest person skiing down the mountain please dont get nervous of people coming past you faster and dont keep looking behind you to see that you are not in anyones way as it is the person who is coming past you to make sure they do in a safe and responsible way. Just concentrate on enjoying your skiing and you will have a great time

I think that's good advice, I wonder how many accidents and near misses are caused by a nervous skier panicking at the approach of a faster skier from behind?

If it's a narrow track it's polite to try and let people pass of course just like it is on the road :D

It's not so much the "faster skier", it's the one who drops into my turn rhythm, and is getting closer to my tails with each turn.......

it's the one who, despite having a whole wide piste to ski, actually carves across the tail of my skis, just behind the bindings, wiping me out......

it's the one who, despite having an entire mountain to turn in, insists on turning opposite me, so directly into my path, putting me on a collision course, so the choice is collide with a large heavy skier or wipe out.......

Snow chains

razor, the latest weather forecasts I have seen show some snow coming in later next week. So, you'll have an easy drive up to LP without chains, but it will be a pig of a trip back down to Aime without them.
Anyway, tis' a requirement in inclement weather, the police are within their rights to turn you back if they consider you ill equipped for the journey. Just imagine getting stuck and having 15 transfer buses behind you...ooh the embarrassment
Get the cheapie chains, it's not worth the hassle....really!

Have a great time :D

Take a good look around when on the hill. There are always natural hits you can use :D

The landing's can* be a lot softer than in the park!

For central Europe may I suggest, Tignes/Val D'Isere/Verbier/Saas Fee/Zermatt or Chamonix.

Always check that the lifts are going to be operating before you book, as this is a short season because of an early Easter!
Zermatt and Saas Fee tend to stay open year round.

ellistine, where do you think the ski industry copied the modern ski shape from ? BTW great pics.

Sadly, the reality is that in most resorts you don't see skiers or boarders carving :(

Trencher

Thanks Trencher, I take no credit at all, I simply stand and watch, amazed. Of course, 2 plankers around this bit of the Valais don't want to be overshadowed by this stuff, so they have their own little event.

There are flags hanging out of apt windows already
Some snowboarders take part, though it's mostly skiers.
ellistine wrote:It's not very often that you see a snowboarder pulling purely carved turns. Certainly makes the line closer to that of skiers.

You clearly spend your time in the wrong resorts :D

I see quite a few from time to time..... http://www.extremecarving.com/news.html
