everywhere in Switzerland can be reached by public transport, that's the beauty of an integrated public transport system :D

You can buy a special ticket that covers transfers from the airport to the resort and return.

I am thinking about a ski holiday second week in April. Does anybody know of a good resort that won't be too slushy or worn-out by then?

No guarantees of course, but Chamonix has been fine in April the last few of years.
Last season I kept a "blog style" snow report. Have just looked back over it and we had nearly 4m snow depth on the upper slopes at the beginning of april!!! here's a link to the snow report:

For the 05/06 season before that, there was a discussion on this board about the snow depths late in the season ... might be interesting for you:

Hope this helps!!

For central Europe may I suggest, Tignes/Val D'Isere/Verbier/Saas Fee/Zermatt or Chamonix.
Always check that the lifts are going to be operating before you book, as this is a short season because of an early Easter!
Zermatt and Saas Fee tend to stay open year round.

:DHi Franzklammer,
You should give Les Arcs a bash, with skiing up to 3226m and resort heights at 1600m ,1800,1950m and 2000m the skiing is pretty much sorted,in fact i always have a week in april as the resorts are quiet, and the slopes are not busy (mind you Les Arcs never seems to be ,which is great)in fact i will be there myself from 8th - 15th,also you can get fantastic dumps of fresh snow in april(but not 100%).
Just for the record the last skiable day this season is April 26th.
But wherever you decide to go have a great time.

FZammer - so did u decide on where to go yet? I've got the exact same question as you and am curious as to which resort you chose. The difficulty of course is that making a decision late means you're booking flights late and are paying hefty prices for it.
Also - does anyone know which of these north-facing and reasonably snowsure resorts can be reached by train from an airport?
Another question - someone mentioned the concern with rain. Does it rain on the snow fields? Or is it because it won't be as cold in April and instead of snow it rains?
