Give some serious thought to taking a beginners ski course at an indoor snow centre or dry slope in the UK this summer.
If you have learned the basics before you arrive, then you will see so much more of the resort you're visiting. For fitness: Wobble Cushions, Core Stability with a Swiss Ball, cycling, hill walking, mountain biking, gym membership if you need structure to your preparation. Start now :D |
Go find a decent bootfitter, who can either:
Raise the footbed level around the painful area, leaving the bone unpressurised, or Lower the footbed to make more room, or Blow the boot shell to make more room for the painful area. Or summat I've not thought of, cause I'm not a bootfitter :D Not sure custom boots are needed. Just get your boots fitted to your feet! |
Zermatt and Saas-Fee expect to be open. I skied Zermatt in September/October last year and it was really good with powder conditions. Some photos here..

Lucy, it is harder to get a job in Switzerland than in the EU. Not sure of your nationality, but EU/EFTA workers do get some breaks. There are some permits issued for short term employment. Here's a good site for you to do some research. http://www.ch.ch/private/00029/00030/00185/00209/index.html?lang=en
Please don't quote me, but I think you will need to find an employer who has to apply for a permit for you. |
Good to hear that you are getting on well with your exercises, keep it up, no slacking ) :D
As far as private vs NHS for braces. My OH saw a consultant privately with insurance, was operated on privately, which confirmed the scan and diagnosis and tidied up the knee internally. The same consultant made the case for the supply of a Cti Edge brace on the NHS, based on the need for OH's knee to be braced when he was walking on steep uneven ground as part of his job (at that time). |
It should be possible to get a Cti brace for around £400 fitted, in the UK. My OH has used one for many years, as he's missing a Cruciate Ligament, and this was the one the surgeon supplied on the NHS. They last a long time, my OH has just had his serviced having had new velcro straps fitted. The company in London is called Technology in Motion.. http://www.technologyinmotion.co.uk/
