O woe is me! My ski boots don't fit!

Let this be a lesson to me - and all those of you on J2ski - I bought a fab pair of Atomic ski boots 3 years ago, had a great week skiing with them in Switzerland, however, 1 ankle operation, DVT and 3 years later, and I have been walking around my kitchen in them AND THEY DON'T FIT!! so I only have myself to blame and have just had a phone call from the Crystal Rep for our trip at the weekend (and was very nice and reassured me I would be able to hire in resort)!

I would like to say I could cry... but I won't because I will be positive as I am going skiing...and hire a pair in resort... and then try to sell these to a new owner!

So if you have ski stuff you have not worn for a while, get it out of the loft in good time and make sure that it fits! It has not been fun in my kitchen tonight! :x
Austria snow in mid march

Can vouch for this place, great atmosphere and people from all over the world, having a great time together.

We have skied Austria the first week of March for many years, and have only had problems in the early 1990's - every other time we have managed to ski every day - we love March in the mountains, you get the longer days and sunnier lunch times. Most TO's will now try and get you to decent snow - we have done day trips to glaciers, even when the snow was fine in resort, just to have the opportunity to see a differerent ski area - but hand on heart, we have always had a great time in March - hope you do too!

Oh and if you land at Salzburg and the fields are green and smelling of cow dung - don't be put off - the resorts are a lot higher up!!

Where the nursery slopes are in Westendorf, a lot of hotels are right by them, or actually beside the slope itself - so no bus required.

Kirchdorf also has nursery slopes with hotels beside - Seiwald and Alphof (I think) but they have a good area to learn, and a hut where you can put your skis and boots overnight (locked up), to minimise carrying stuff about - and the ski bus to other areas stops right by there - so that may be worth considering. Nice little slopes for small fry to learn on, cartoon characters to ski in and out of, and seating areas for parents to sit and watch/encourage.

A lot depends on your budget, the culture of that country (i.e. some people prefer France over anywhere else).

Arinsal in Andorra also has a gondola up from the village and a locker you can hire at the top to store everything in, and nice easy slopes to learn on.

It is a pain at any age having to carry stuff about!
I am glad I am at the other end of the Tyrol!!

Westendorf - has taught more British to ski than anywhere, great slopes in the village and an easy gondola ride high up, so even if you don't ski up the top, still worth going up with small peeps! :D

I also think it is here that they have a little ski train that picks the kids up and takes them to lessons, or that may be Saalbach-Hinterglemm?
To Ski School Or Not

Other alternative is that you could try skiing by yourself for a couple of days to start with and then contact the ski school to see about joining a class for the rest of your time there, we have done that in the past and you get the best of both worlds really.

Most skiers are pretty sociable and we have arranged to meet up with people from our hotel, ski school class etc, for a hot chocolate or beer, and then afterwards in some bar, and some of them are still friends years later.
