All in one ski suit, is it acceptable?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 33 Replies
May I comment on the one piece suit ?

Yours ( in picture) is great! There was a period some time ago when "fluo" was the in suit color to wear. Those are "verboten" anywhere in the world !

In serious powder skiing the one piece suits are much much better since there is no way for snow to "'migrate" to back or to chest area!

What is more important than wearing a one piece, two piece or three piece suits is how you ski in this suit ! What will impress everyone watching is HOW YOU SKI ! You can wear old 1950's wool sweater, knickers, long long scarf and if you ski effectively all will smile !

Fashion is not the key word,,function is !

Enjoy your suit. You look great in it. Now if you show us how you ski,,,,,,,,

Respectfully,

The Wrong Boots!!

Matt, ( and others)

The term, "clueless" made me think.

Your "feelings/perception" about the competencies of the salesperson may very well be correct but you will never be sure.

Here is fail safe way to find out if a person does know a "little" about boot fitting.

Ask;

1. What is the width of the boots in mm. ( the inner widest part of the boot ) Typically 100-110 are for male wide, wide feet. Racers want narrow narrow boots since they only suffer for a few minutes but get a perfect "feel" of the skis 90 mm - 97mm.

2. What is difference between modo size 28 and 28.5 ( or whatever size you want,,).
The inexperienced sales person will say, "28.5 is a half size larger,,,longer "

3. What flex level does he/she recommend for wife/friend ? No women should have a boot with a flex above 100! Well OK OK perhaps Vonn has a boot with a flex of 120, but she is the best in the world today!!!!

4. Casually ask ( as you have the boots in your hand), "what is that line,,or triangle in the inner mid sole section of the shell? " It is the reference mark for the mating of the boots and the bindings!

Watch

1. how he/she buckles boots. From top or bottom.
2.how he/she "fits" boots
- just asks for shoe size ( poor poor poor salesperson)
- just uses mondo fitting template.
- uses mondo template and "feels" nake foot! Yes feels feet!!!!
- insists in having person fit boots with personal ski socks ( never with street socks)
-heats up boots BEFORE fitting them ( all boots should be heated ). What no boot heaters in shop,,,,,,,get out rigth away !
3. If salesperson buckles boots to TIGHT position. ( Never place boots to very tight position until wearing boots for at least 30 minutes on soft position and no pain,,pressure )

4. Finally if salesperson asks; where you ski, how you ski, what conditions you ski, perceived ability level, "other sports or activities done"

If boot fitter says, "you have to ski on them a while for them to fit better" ! Get out of shop !

Matt,
As all the others have stated, "GO BACK NOW" !

The only thing that should "move" freely in the boots is the toes ! You should be able to wiggle toes freely yet feel just past the first articulation a snuggnest ,,not pressure,,but a soft gentle feel!

Try this;

Take liner out and put foot in liner outside ski boot shell! Press down where big toe is! There should be no space! Big toe should be snug to line tip !

Then put foot into shell and push foot FORWARD into shell ! Place your fingers in REAR of ankle!
How many fingers can you insert?

Finally get liner into boot, put boot on and buckle to smallest setting. Ask girlfriend to raise heels ( inside boot ) If movement,,,,get new boots!

DO NOT WAIT !

You have all missed the most important "ritual" to prepare your self for skiing!

Now sit down,,promise NOT to laugh while you read this since this is very serious !

You must do following in October;

1. Find largest walking in freezer and ask to stay in for at least 2 hours.
2. Sit on cold meat while wearing shorts
3. Put on as many layers of clothes you can,,then rush to bathroom at last second to,,,,
4. Driver slowly for 5 hours ( anywhere) as long as it is raining or hailing. You must follow a 18 wheeler going also 60 km/h.
5. Fill blender with ice ( ice again ),,,hit the pulse button with NO cover on ! Let icy spray hit face and allow ice to melt on face !
6. Clip a ski lift ticket to jacket collar, then get on motorcycle/truck/trailer and go fast enough to make ticket flap in your face!
7. Place ski boots in freezer for 2 days. Then put on all ski pants, bend over for two hours trying to put boots on !
8. Find nearest curling/hockey ice rink. Put on ski boots and try to walk around for two hours on ice!
9. Place a small angular pebble in your shoes. Then pour in shoe 1 cup of crushed ice ( chilled,,not stirred) Put shoe on,,then using a C clamp begin to turn screw ! Stop only before you faint from pain !
10. Take old ski goggles. Tape lenses. Put on goggles while carrying skis and now try to hit everyone around you ! You must not peek for at least 30 minutes !

11. On a cold windy day,,,rent a crane. Get an old chair and have crane lift you 10 meters up facing the wind ! After 30 minutes ,,ask operator to swing boom about !

12. Put on ski clothing and go to nearest park ( where there is sandlot) ! begin to fall left and right
the toughen hips and thighs! If proficient in this phase,,now begin to fall fore and aft ! If possible try to swallow sand in the fore falling position !

13. Drink 3-5 liters of water! Put on several layers of ski clothing and clip zippers for that "spot" !
Place hands in a cold 2 liter jar of water ! Wait until,,,,,,well just wait !!! Then as fast as possible rip open that zipper !!!!

14. Find a building that has at least 15 levels ! Put on ski boots and carry skis up stairs! As other person meet you,,swing skis around ! Three points if you hit their heads. 2 points if you hit their torso. 1 point if you miss !

Now for the final one !!!

Take an old pair of skis! Nail them 44 cm apart on a wooden floor ! Put on ski boots and get on skis ( you must put bindings on 13DIN value). Now carve skis on floor,,trying to pull out skis from floor!

I am sure others will find other such "preparations"

PS,,,these suggestions were given in part to me by Zack LLoyd my personal ski trainer !
Svend,

I am taking 10 skiers to Kicking Horse about this time. Plans are not final !

If you want a free room it is yours!

I am a tad older domesticated male, non smoker who gets up very early and occasionally speaks about skiing while sleeping!

When your plans are finalized I will send you my final plans also!

Why free room? Well tour agency is paying for this room since I am guiding this group.

Send me information via PM !

Aerial views of ski resorts

Old Old Andy, ( with young heart ),

You will love this!

At Whistler you have now a "virtual ski " video ! That is you get into video section. Then you can ski down trails and view from all sides with mouse! You direct video. Thus your select trails!

What Google has done is placed a special camera on a skidoo very much like they did with cars!

In this manner you can ski ( view ski) all trails from your home!

I have found if you put your ski boots on, ski pants and jacket slightly chilled and have wife throw some snow into your face,,,,it nearly feels like skiing at Whistler!

Try it !

My wife loves the smell of hot melted wax!
It reminds her of all the great skiing trips she had. The great sensations of a well tuned and waxed ski.

She hates one thing about ski waxing in my basement tuning room. The wax on the floor !!!

I have tried carpets on floor ( friend gives me all his stores ends)!
I have tried mats on floor !
I have tried papers on floor!

There seems to be wax always on floor! Huggggg!

Then I found a great solution ! I fixed the problem where it begins! At the bench level !

I took a stiff carpet ( office type or industrial grade seems best ) and placed it on the work bench where my vices are. Then I cut three ( for three vices) slots about 2" into carpet where the vices are placed on bench surface.
In this manner the carpet sticks out 2" from skis at bench level. No more wax drips !
All wax falls unto carpet (just under vices) !

No more wax drips on floor!

Happy wife !

Saved marriage !

Now another problem has come up !

My son. his wife, his kids all come over to get their skis done ! They love my wax solution so,,,,,,

If anyone can help me,,,with this problem!!!!
