As always you are right on !

The "rocker" design has changed the skiing experience ! It has gotten away from using race skis as the "reference" platform to other skis models !

My point is that rocker skis are great in specific settings and not so great in other settings! I have three rocker skis. The Blizzard Cochise, The Fischer Watea 110 and the Rossi S3 ! All are great in soft powder, well groomed slopes. In hard packed, ice blue, race type courses,,,,,,,,,,,well I did not like them at all !

Yet I read in ads, heard reps in technical workshops and read in ski chat sites how great they are in hard packed slopes. The perfect "one quiver" ski !

Here is another marketing ad from a "revolutionary ski" !
You guess the year and ski company !

Note how ad mentions all terrain ski. Revolutionary design. Best skier !

There is a saying in the skiing business. "A great skier can ski any ski " ! Its not the ski that makes the difference,,it is the skier!

What a great ski does it makes "trying to ski easier, heaven and special "

Read wisely those ads!

Good point Trencher,,,,I did forget to mention! Not a ski resort in Utah that you would ski more than 2 days!
There are so many other great great resorts in Utah!

One resort,,,,,,, that very few know about,,that I call a "hidden pearl" is Sundance ! In a dead end canyon away from the tourists and crowds this is a jewel !

Unique in ways I will not tell all here!

Well just one ! At top of resort is a unique cabin all alone it sits , " the view outside will take your breath away,,,but wait until you are inside ! Memories will flood your mind as you enter. Special music will be heard as you gaze at very special "articles"!

You must go to Sundance once also !

What I am "getting at " is to make skiers/consumers aware that if they want to make an "intelligent" choice of ski it is not by just reading marketing ads.

The ads are aimed at getting the most skier types to choose ski zzz . Over the years the same "hyperbole" is used to promise; greater control, greater speed, greater prestige, greater "revolutionary technology", great turning ability, etc,,,,!

Be honest, the goal of marketing is to sell,,,,not to inform!

Rare is the ad that informs and sells !

That is where I am getting at. Know that those ads are selling you an "image", a desire for you to be better skier, faster skier, most techno skier, etc,,,,

Give the latest, hot Blizzard Cochise ski to an intermediate skier and see what he/she will do in 60+ cm. of powder!

In short,,I am suggesting to skiers to become "educated" on how to read ads. To find other sources of information about skis and finally to know what their needs are !

There are no "miracle" skis,,only hard work, lots of practice on slope will make you a better skier!

First define "hardcore" !

I am a ski fanatic,,perhaps to some "hardcore" and I recommend to all skiers to go to Deer Valley once in their life time!
There are some "experiences" all hardcore skiers must do. Going to Deer Valley is one of them.

1. Ease of travel to Deer Valley
2. Quality of service. No other ski resort in the world gave me such service !
3. Quality of ski terrain ( varied, well groomed and well indicated)
4. The only place where ski patrol allowed me to ski my speed.
5. Best outside "serve yourself lunch" at Stein's Inn
6. Very best lift operators.
7. Unique well qualified ski instructors
8. Unique ski valet system. Unique in North America
9. Ski area topography with valleys, hidden slopes and cruisers
10. People at ski center. One word for all of them,,,,,unique !

Try it ! You will not regret it!

The key for many skiers is to lean forward,,use that 40% tip zone thus be "ahead" of the turn!

As far as that "term" FALL,,,,,never never think of that while skiing !

If in your mind you think;
fall, hurt, insurance, break, blood, crash, pain, ,,,in short negative thoughts,,,,,well you are "holding back ",,,!!! Chances are you will hurst yourself !

Imagine if on your marriage day you think of; fall, hurt, insurance, breakup, blood, crash, emotional pain,,,,,so why while skiing! It should be the happiest day of your life ( wedding and skiing) !

Enjoy skiing. Relax ! Trust your skis! Trust your ability!

This "extract" is from a ad in a major ski magazine, I have just taken out ( zzzz) words which identifies company or brand name.

"This multi-award winning zzzz has changed the skiing game. Hard charging experts and struggling intermediates agree that this zzzz is revolutionary in its ability to make skiing easier, more fun and less fatiguing.
The zzzz delivers both maneuverability and forfiveness than any other ski on the market. A damp big mountain, badass ( sorry Dave,,,,not my language ) zzzzz ski !

Of course along with this text comes a large picture of a skier going over a 10 meter cliff !
