Innsbruck Transfer Advice
Started by User in Austria, 4 Replies
On the way back to Innsbruck Airport last season I saw a minibus go past with Holiday Transfers written on the side - they have a website and do shuttle services to resorts in Austria and over into Italy. Type in Innsbruck Airport shuttle and see what comes up too. Niederau good fun for a beginniner/Intermediate and nice village - Alpbach was good too last year - hope you find something that suits. Other alternative is to look at trains - OBB is the Austrian train website - wonderful journey!
Bus timetables Kirchdorf Schneewinkel

Stayed at Kirchdorf 2 years running, nice little village with access to lots of other resorts. If I remember rightly there was a bus several times a day to the Steinplatte and return - and also going the other way to St Johann and Fieberbrunn. Enjoyed all the skiing hence we went back again. The busses do get crowded if you time it wrong or if the skit schools all decide to hit the Steinplatte the same day, so maybe good advice is to do that early on in your trip - like a big bowl of snow up there (and you ski into Germany on the far lift!) Enjoy!

Just booked for 1st week of March as friends are staying nearby - anyone skied this area at all? I hve been through it/past it on many trips through to the Tyrol - just wondered if anyone was familiar with the town/area? I know the British Ski Team are/were based there but that is all I know other than our B&B has great write ups!

Tony H - today's sad news of the coach crash in Switzerland highlights the very reason you do not block aisles or emergency exits - that is precisely what they are for. I know these things, I work for the emergency services. I have emailed the TO and had an acknowledgement - they have 28 days to explain so they say.

So sorry for everyone involved in this, both in Belgium and Switzerland.
Wipe-out etiquette

There is the FIS code of conduct which all skiers should adhere to - I think there are 10 points, but in this case ..

i.e. ski within your own ability.. and the skier below has right of way, etc.

I did notice that of the few wipe outs and collisions I saw in Alpbach last week between varying nationalities, it was all very polite, helpful and making sure everyone was OK.

We managed to ski from 9.30 - 3.30 most days when the visibility was good (we had 3 'bluebird' days!). It is not for those who want to ski miles and miles of different pistes, it is more for those who are happy to ski the same or similar runs all week, gradually building up confidence, perhaps trying a bit steeper or faster, practising different things, and stopping to enjoy the views, and certainly seeing the same happy people from all over Europe on the slopes as in the village. Yes it is probably the same size area as Niederau, Oberau and Auffach put together, but there is nothing wrong with that at all - and like Ness Wood above says, she has been going for the last 30 years, so that says something to me!

Gemutlichkeit - there is not a direct English translation, the nearest we have is 'cosy', the Danes also have a similar word 'hygge' for when something is nice, cosy and relaxed.

Stick to France if it suits you, and leave Austria for those who enjoy it and keep going back! I know we will.
Ski boots

Yes I will return and speak to them. The new footbed was OK whilst in the shop, but obviously a day's skiing is totally different. I still have the receipt and box, but whether they will refund or exchange is another matter. I can only ask.

Comfy ski boots would be a dream come true for so many! :-)
Ski boots

No they weren't but they still cost me £35! Is it wrong to ski in boots without them in, even if they are more comfortable and I can wiggle my toes better without them? It was a joy not to have aching soles!

I can't have my boots too tightly done up owing to circulation problems (DVT) so to be able to adjust them more easily just by moving the clips across was so much better.

My husband joked that it would be good if ski boots had a memory for all their settings....and that they stayed on the most comfortable, as there are 4 lots of clips to fart-arse about with! (fart-arse is a technical term you understand!)
