Funny you mention this, about 4 days ago we had a pretty chilly night. A real autumnal feel to it and in the morning as well. So i have felt it very recently

Somewhere like Saalbach maybe?
Flybe fly to Salzburg from Southampton, and Thomsonfly do as well from Bournemouth, so thats pretty handy for you!! Only 90 mins max from Salzburg airport as well. I think there is a train station in Saalbach as well, but without researching it i cant be sure. Scenery isnt absolutely amazing, but being the Alps it does impress  Got plenty of skiing, tonnes of cruisers and some harder stuff should you feel adventurous :-) Its a lively place, but there are plenty of places to stay so you can get away from it very easily. There are some quite good shops there as well, but i dont know about jewellers as i've never been looking for that sort of thing  Or if you want the same ski area but dont want to stay in the centre of it, Leogang is a nice place (just in the next valley but connected via a few lifts!!) Some of the skiing is above 2000m and theres a good few north facing slopes, so if the snow conditions arent great they will be better on that side. Slopes are all within walking distance, whether you stay in Saalbach, Hinterglemm or Leogang. And of course there are plenty of decent hotels. We stayed in the Hotel Saalbacherhof, right in the centre of the town and was really nice. (Within 5 mins walk from the Schattberg gondola and Kohlmais gondola as well!) And finally, there is good cross country skiing, plenty of hiking (as long as it doesnt dump 50cm a day!!) and the usual aray of general activities! |
Yeah i'd imagine it would be packed!! I remember watching it last year and they had heavy snow and quite strong winds, they were struggling to get a decent speed in the thick fresh snow and wind in their faces  |
Yeah thats usually end of October sometime isnt it?

Salt Lake City has Alta/Snowbird and Deer Valley pretty close, also Brighton and Solitude aren't far!!
Not sure of the closest resorts to Denver but i think about 1.5/2 hours for Breck. Depends how "major" you call Kelowna (Canada) but thats got a few within an hour, Silver Star and Big White being the 2 main ones. Mt Baldy isn't far either, just down by the US border. Vail has its own quite good airport, American Airlines and most of the other US airlines fly there from places in America (Chicago, Boston, New York, LAX etc) |
Same   Cant wait to find some pics of what its like there today, providing its open, i assume avalanche risk would be insane after 1m of fresh snow in a day! |
They are designed to take different levels of stress. Bike helmets probably aren't as strong as snowsports helmets, so if you slam into a tree with a bike helmet it may well brake.
Plus, wearing a full face bike helmet, in my opinion, would look very stupid when skiing  |
Flaine/Chamonix/La Clusaz maybe?? All pretty close to Geneva (within an hour)
