Any time. Only been skiing for 5 years myself ( although got so addicted don`t have summer holidays anymore, just skiing!), and you will love it. Look through some of the threads as there are some useful tips for beginners on how to deal with your first chairlift experience etc, and this will really help with confidence. Have fun and any questions, just shout!

Can`t offer first hand advice, but I have friends who have been and they loved it. Apparently the only drawback is that the lifts aren`t that close to the actual village, but they said the village was pretty and had a really good atmosphere.

They said that the skiing is good for beginners as there are several cruising runs for you to build your confidence on without terrifying yourself, so you have picked a good resort in that case!!

They had lessons while out there with Soll Hochsoll and they had a really good instructor, and would recommend them. Don`t forget when you learn, if you don`t like your instructor, or feel that you are not gelling with their techniques, then ask to change! I did this when I first started and was flying within 2 hours of being with my new instructor!!

Hope you have a great time, and no doubt you`ll be back on this site at the end of Jan planning your next ski trip!!

P.S There are NEVER any stupid questions when it comes to skiing, the more you ask, the quicker you learn, and the sooner you get addicted!!
Think I may answer my own question here and say YES the snow is on it`s way!!!

Happy skiing guys!
Hey Guys

Due to be going away on the 9th December, and looking at the forecasts, there could be some good dumps of snow towards the back end of the week which would be fab!!

We have shortlisted Obergurgl, Val Thorens, Val D`Isere and Saas Fee.....Can anyone offer any reports from the ground at these resorts?? We`re not going to book until the very last minute anyway but just got my hopes up when I was surfing around snow forecasts!!!

Please please let it snow!!! :D

Hey Geez...I confess, I got my boots after only 2 trips and it was the best thing I ever did, got skis as well at same time as I knew I was hooked. I went to Ellis Brigham ski shop and spent an hour with 1 of their specialists going through where I was at, what I wanted to do, what I was struggling with etc and they recommended I went straight to an intermediate combination. Once I had my own gear, I had another private lesson, and advanced beyond anything I`d done before....you will never get more of a buzz than carving your first proper turn!! I have stuck on my "intermediate" boots now for 5 years although the skis have progressed...I genuinely believe with boots, if you are never going to be a full blown expert, then it is more how they feel and your ability to control the ski which can only be gained from trying boots out..and probably lots of them!!

However, if you are at a stage where you are not doing parallel turns in full confidence yet, I would wait and hire a couple of different types of boot on your next trip so you can get a feel for what you like and what feels comfortable. Ultimately, there is no comparison once you have your own moulded boots to those that you hire, but to avoid any mistakes, I really would just use your next trip to try out boots and then buy for your trip after that when you will fully be able to enjoy your gear...Hope this helps somewhat pal!

Hey Comet

As I said, things change so quickly and the last couple of days has seen change everywhere....If I was you, I would wait until last minute to book accommodation..it`ll be realtively easy to get cos of time of year!!Otherwise book it, but check the cancellation policy!! We are also skiing 9th Dec for 1 week, and I have booked flights to Innsbruck and Geneva to hedge my bets next week!! ( Cheap ones mind!)

Some places have had some good snow this week, but even in some open resorts, there is due rain up to 1830!! So could be a shaky start this year!
