bcooper,

The resorts of Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alpes, Serre Chevalier, Puy St Vincent, and the 'milky way' including Montgenevtre and Sestriere in Italy all issue one week or longer duration passes that provide for some reciprocal skiing. There also discounted passes for students.

I believe that there are similar arrangements at other large resorts in close proximity to each other.

When am I an "Old Codger"?

I can't believe some these comments. I have just turned 70 and for the last few years I have ski-ed for the whole of January and March, a week or so in December and a week or so in April each season. I am about to do the same in 08/09 and I hope to go on for a good few more years afterwards. I am just a bit peeved that the Alpe d'Huez lift firm has just increased the qualifying age for a free season's pass from 70 to 72.

We are all different but, for me, regular cycling, long walks, some mountain hiking and not putting on too much weight seems to be sufficient to keep me fit enough for an active ski season.

It is well worthwhile exploring the other ski areas within Massif des Grandes Rousses. Auris, Vaujany, Montfrais, Oz en Oisans, Oz Enversin, Villard Reculas and Foret de Maronne are all linked up by pistes and lifts with the main resort of Alpe d'Huez. ( Auris and Montfrais are usually quiet)

There several excellent mountain restaurants in addition to the ones at the airport and at the end of the Sarenne already mentioned. Lac Besson and Les Airelles are especially good.

tomski,

There are two main resorts in Chamrousse. They are Recoin and Beranger.

Bachat Bouloud is within the ski domain and it is possible to ski there from the main resorts and get a lift back out but it is nevertheless quite separate.

I understand that much of Bachat Bouloud is being renovated but I am not sure if the trouble with Transmontagne has delayed things.

There are certainly no derelict buildings in the main resorts of Recoin and Beranger.

I can confirm that the lifts were operating throughout last season. I had two days skiing there, one at the beginning and the other at the end of the season.

As far as I can gather the property interests of Transmontagne at Chamrousse have been taken over by another firm and the lifts are currently being operated by some sort of private/public partnership.

The official Chamrousse website www.chamrousse.com indicates that there will be skiing in the coming season.

Tony,

I have ski-ed a few days, on and off, at Puy St.Vincent.It is an attractive resort with quiet pistes on weekdays.. A lot of the skiing is tree lined. It has a good snow record. It is an ideal resort, in my opinion, for a day's visit.

Skisuit,

Whenever I hire a car at Grenoble Airport I use the Sunwheels website. They guarantee to get a competitive price. I have never had a problem getting a car on a Saturday afternoon or evening.

There are regular buses to Grenoble bus station from the airport. There are two buses to Oz en Oisans from that bus station each Saturday. Details are on the Oz en Oisans website.

You will also find details of taxi services on the same website.

The information may not yet be updated for next ski season. If so the tourist office at Oz en Oisans will help you:
