In another post Salski mentioned that selecting skis and selecting husbanb/wife has some related parameters.

We all know that the high divorce rate in our modern societies is causing many problems, both social and financial! Is it possible that we can learn from how we select skis and apply this process to "humans"!

Think about it selecting a husband/wife often is emotive, purely visceral, superficial (of course I want you to react), sexual?

Selecting skis of course is not! Or is it! Just read the marketing literature on the powerful, fast, clean skis!

Here is your challenge!
Think about it, how did you select your mate? What techniques used ? What benchmarks did you have? Then relate to skis you selected?

Here are the most comment "criteria" most people use ( you determine if it is for skis or wife/husband)

1. Expert skier uses it
2. Ski instructor used it
3. Great visual graphics
4. Great side-cut ( with 117-65-100 measurements)
5. Very stable in rough spots
6. Does not chatter when stressed
8. Does not "break up" after two year use
9. Takes a "wide" footprint
10.Takes you to higher levels of passion
11.Light to carry
13.Has many performance characteristics
14.Recommend by a product specialist
15.Tried it on vacation ( several times)
16.Can apply wax esily
17.Holds to terrain, does not deviate
18.Can be repaired easily
19.Adapts to all sorts of conditions
20.You dream of it

Help me find "other" criteria and also the processes of selection you used to get skis/wife husband!

Salski,
You have a valid point! Your comment "bounced" around my brain and I wondered why? Then it hit me,, you know that "Eureka" moment! You had found a vital truth,,,,the process of selection a mate and a ski has some "overlap"!

I will start a new post, in your honor asking how skiers can relate selecting a ski and a wife/husband! Should be interesting!

See what you have started Salski!

Dave Mac has made me realize that many skier do not know why rear entry boots are going the way of the dinosaur!

Why!

They were introduced in the late 70's and 80's due to a poor fitting problem! Their marketing message was; ease of entry and very very soft fit!
Few people know that the very first Salomon produced was a rear entry!

Notice that 90% of skiers DO NOT use such boots! Not one serious racer at university, national or international level ever use these boots!

I have often said that you ski with your feet and feel with your feet! That magic "ski feel" all starts at the feet! Great boots and great fit is the cornerstone of great skiing! You can not get "ski feel" with rear entry boots! Too much volume. Too much mush feeling! Too much dead spots just above foot arch!Just like wearing gloves that are too large!

You will surely notice only ski rental shops use rear entry! Why? Quick fit for many types of feet! You skiers lose!

If you are a "entry" level skier not sure if this sport is for you, then rent rear entry ski boots ,,for a while! The sooner you get your own boots the better!

I still have the Salomon proto-type I tested many years ago and after Dave Mac's post I took them out to try them again!
The lining is hard as rock! I can not believe I skied in them! The flex is equivalent to +150 flex index as on racing boots! I float in them! They are like vices!
Truly, you are doing yourself a dis-service to yourself if you ski on such boots for the sake of "saving money"

Dave Mac,

Rear entry boots are a problem as far as liners. The rear vertical unit ( like a vertical tongue) has a plug which inserts into the rear plastic shell. It must fit exactly this slot so no other liner will do!

The rear entry boots from several years ago are NOT very effective with new skis. I would suggest that you will "learn" poor skiing habits using them!

Many many rear entry also have a cable mechanism to hold
heel down, thus you need exact liner for model!

Dave, they can be great flower pots, tool holders, pen holders, knife holders, bolt containers, bird houses, lawn lamp holders, etc...

Sorry.

The only things in life that are certain are death, taxes...and an accident blocking the road on the way to your favorite trail.

Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers...could only dream of telemark turns.

I have a dream...of skiing an endless powder.

Give me liberty or give me...an avalanche.

Good things come to people who wait...but those that jump in early usually get good powder too.

The meek shall inherit the earth...the aggressive shall dominate the slopes.

Many are chosen but few come...when the trails are fresh during the work week.

Once you are 50, it is downhill all the way!

Great choice. +5-15 c weather! Lots of snow!

Must ski early in the morning!

Go to south side right away since early morning sun hits it first, Best long intermediate run sped up!

Then at 11 Am go to lake side ( side with eratz vilage)McConnell best intermediaten run wide steep fast! If you like fast GS turns go there! Again lower section flat so keep speed up!

I never go to bottom since to many skiers, stay at upper section great quad! Do not tale Nasen since it is long long flat run!

Do not eat at top resto! Too expensive!

Watch out for cariboo drink!!!Very very potent!

May I suggest you buy all ski material in Montreal1 In late March deals are great, See Sports Expert on St. Catherine street!

Buy drinks ( juice) in Dépaneur ( local small grocery shop) and bury at top and bottom! You will need it!

Must try poutine" near end of ski week since your body will need three to recover! Do Not eat this on first day!!!!
Try to speak French such as, "bonjour", quelle-belle journeé, c'est super, c'est hot, c'est formidable, !

Brimg lots of T-shirst, wild shorts, spring gloves, Sun tan lotion!

Best place to eat is North side, in older ski cottage!

Do not ski Expo unless you have serious insurance, "thunder thighs" and great technique!

Do not eat "beaver tail' goodies full full of sugar and fat!!!!

If you can wax skis everyday since it will get sticky by 12AM!

Get great sun glasses not goggles! Lots and lots of sun!
