Dave M, whats a munro-bagger?

aye Rose, I can hear the brain popping!

They are mountains over 3000 ft. There are around 284 of them in Scotland, Ross will correct me, and named after Sir Hugh Munro, the first person to climb them all.

Some of them are easy strolls, some are life-threatening, in the wrong conditions. Actually, I suppose they can all be LT if the conditions are wrong.

Mountains over 2,500 ft, (or foothills, as my Austrian friends call them!), are called Corbetts, after John Rooke Corbett. They must have a drop of 500 ft between them to qualify. 221 0f these

A mountain over 2000 ft is called a Graham. Min drop between peaks is 150m, and there are 224 of them.

There are a lot of other named categories, including "Wainwrights"

Update, been looking for prepaid alternatives from A1 or T-mobile and found a better map on 3 Austria website and it looks like we could be OK.

Munro produced a list, he never actually completed them and it's not clear exactly who was the first. The list has varied over the years as better surveying revealed some peaks were a bit over or a bit under. His list was actually 583 peaks but some were subsidiary summits so there were 283 distinct summits. One of my friends actually completed them on the day of the 100th anniversary of the first reported completion by Reverend A. E. Robertson.

The term Wainwrights is used but I think it's pretty clear the man himself would be horrified.

I have a Three UK USB modem I was hoping to use in the laptop while I am in Oberau in a cople of weeks time but on inspection of the Three Austria map, coverage on the Three network drops off Quickly once you exit Worgl.

Thanks

Mark

Hi,

I've just returned from Niederau, and I'm also on the three network. I had no problems with my mobile all week. Once I arrived in Austria, the phone automatically connected to three, and I found that there was no problem with signal at all. I was able to use my phone from the top of the mountain and also in the village, and I didn't experience any problems. Hope this helps.

I too used my Three minutes in Niederau and some of the other resorts we visited. You do need to check that your phone is on the 3 AT network before you make a call. The mobile charges even if you are not are the most reasonable I have come across. You do have to be on a Monthly Contract. I am not sure about the Modem for your laptop though. Anyone who visits Austria regularly like Dave would do well to have 3 as their preferred provider.

I have posted some photos of my week on Facebook and made the album public!!
