msej449,
I see your point in buying in resort as you can go back for tweaks and even replacements as problems occur with skiing for a few hours.

Your idea of 'Try and buy' can't possibly work as none of the boots will be fitted to your exact requirements. What has been made clear to me is that it is likely that only one or two boots will be right for any one person due to the anatomy of your foot and ankle. So to try 4 off the shelf boots would seem pointless in the long term.

Obviously this has been perfet for yourself, but It may not be the case for me.

I know both CEM and SZK are very reputable fitters and I am open to either one.
I'll Just have to weigh up the pro's and cons of each and decide nearer the time.

I know everyone has different experiences. I would never rent boots again knowing what I do now. My first purchased pair were in resort, excellent price for a good boot which was about right for me. But turned out to be too big and I had to get rid of them because of the size and also because I needed more advanced boots.
The replacements were bought in the UK, and have been absolutely superb, no problems, no pain, no fannying about with clips. They were straight forward Salomon Imnpact 8 with custom linings, no insoles or anything required.
However, I do understand that some people have funny feet or differently shaped ones and need different kind of support, or have had injurues which need looking after.
I think if my feet were at all unusual, I would seek a fitting.

EVO88, if your OH is set upon an outing to London, then consider Profeet. I have been a customer of theirs in the past. They have many satisfied clients including industry pro skiers.

Like CEM they will only fit boots to an appointment schedule.

I've just tried to get hold of CEM on the phone. He is going to call me back. Bicester is on the way to London so we can start off there then head in to Lahndahn!
