We are going to Lachtal from the Dec 27th. It's not looking good atm. Has anyine skied there before? Also where is the closest area with good snow?

There seems to be a little bit of snow in Lech now. Two warm days tomorrow and friday.
Hope I can still find some decent skiing on friday.

An update on Gastein area. When we left sport yesterday there were bits of snow falling but when we got back up there today there was new snow of around 5 to 6cm and combined with that all the cannons ran all day above the mid station. Conditions were far better for this and so good that a planned excursion to Kaprun has been cancelled. I did not go to Bad Gastein but I am told that they had many more cannons running and the one run that was open had improved. As others have said though the weather will be warmer after tomorrow and possibly well into next week. This is not official but I think they will open a few more runs next week and they have been protecting one or two they could have opened up this week. The increased volume of traffic though will probably mean that conditions will get worse before they get better.

bedrock barney wrote:There is a decent amount of snow in Zermatt with 70% of the pistes now open. Pretty similar over in Cervinia. I imagine booking this late would cost a packet though.

In Lech now. It was raining a lot yesterday, which wiped out most of the good snow, and we had a warm day today. The only run good enough to ski and open is the blue 34. It is crowded because all other runs are closed. Some people are going to Ischgl in the morning but I heard it is only a little better.
At least I am getting my strolz boots today.

yeah, the same is happening here. After some good snow earlier this week yesterday it rained all the way up to 2700 meters, so this snow is largely gone. The only place worth skiing at the moment is Mont Fort, but it's ungroomed so will be covered in huge moguls by the end of weekend and lift lines to get to the top will be horrendous. Warm weather is forecast till Tuesday.
